For anyone thinking buying a base or T Cayman right now I note that only PDK is available. Oddly enough both transmissions are still available on the Cayman S.

Obviously there's a temporary supply issue with the Getrag manual 'box which I'm sure will be rectified once normality is restored.

Do you think that they've started to use all the manual boxes on the GTS Jeff?

I tried to change my order to an S but was told that they aren't building any this year and it would be a special order. Maybe thats why you can still put the PDK on the S the same as you can still spec a T but can't get a build one for love nor money.

It is much more likely aimed at enriching product line margins, simplifying production and possibly end-gaming a transmission product.

Could be Dan, particularly if manual 'box supply is a bit restricted right now, and as Ralph says the profit margins on the GTS and GT4 are considerably higher than on the base cars. Demand for the GT4 outstrips supply but I don't know what the situation is for the GTS. Whatever, from what you say it seems to be difficult to get delivery of an optioned car right now, exacerbated no doubt by the recent shutdown, and I think I'm correct in saying that there's only one Cayman production line in Osnabrück, which must be another limiting factor.

Ralph, I'm sure that Porsche would be delighted if they could drop the manual transmission option given the additional development work required, but since they've been using the same Getrag unit for years they've had an easy ride in that respect. I know that the US is probably the most important market for Porsche, but it does seem odd that they've chosen the US in advance of ROW to introduce the PDK option on the GT4 and GTS given the popularity of the 'stick-shift' there, while potential buyers in Europe are chomping at the bit for the PDK.
