Hi guys

I have no idea if this is the correct place but wanted to say hello as i'm a new member and tomorrow the new owner of a 996. (Already paid for).

Quick history:
Had a 79 911 SC back in the early nineties then a 3.3 Turbo (albeit a bitsa based on an SC with Carrera crank).
Loved these cars (mainly the original but the bitsa was fun) but had to give them up due to financial circumstances and have longed for one ever since.

How I got here (a post plug and service plug):

I searched for Porsche servicing in Suffolk because i was trying to find some guidance for costs etc. the search came up with https://www.porscheclubgb.com/forum/FindPost/950417
So i gave them a call, what a refreshing experience! PIE have helped me immensely, I was very worried about making a purchase and they selflessly helped me with advice and cost estimations with not a comment about (this guy who's not paying us money and wasting our time)

Thanks for the link kevinnunn (whoever you are) it was most valuable.

So what am I getting tomorrow: -

2000 Carrera 2 996 3.4 convertible
Meridian metalic
Dark blue interior

Not sure how things are done here but hope it's a reasonable intro.

Welcome too, Robert. There is loads of great info and knowledge to be found here which I am sure will be of great help. Enjoy the pick up - fantastic weather for your first drive home!

Likewise, welcome. It does look lovely, plus you managed to figure out how to post lots of pictures, so you must be a natural at this forum :)

I was thinking the same regarding so many great pic loaded! But great pics though - enjoy the weather!

Great looking car. I had a very similar car, Cab and 2000 3.4.

Loved the car and I hope you have as much fun and enjoyent that I had over my 7 years of ownership.

Thanks for the welcome and the kind comments guys, I will have plenty of questions about this car going forward as I have quite a few bits i want to work on and a total lack of knowledge so apologies in advance [;)]

Welcome to the joys of 996 ownership! You'll have a great time with the car and the weather gods are being particularly kind right now! Great pics and hope you get to drive it more over the coming months/years.

Welcome, the car looks great and you’ve come to the right place. Really helpful folks here who have tons of experience. I hope you have a great time owning the car!

Lovely looking car Robert
What upgrades and maintenance are your main priorities?
Hope you really enjoy your return to the family.
Simon

I really need to get the car down to PIE Subdury to find out if what I have bought is what I think I have bought.

My current belief is:

  • General car v nice and worth the money paid
  • Clutch shot and requires changing (RMS and IMS same time)
  • Suspension feels tired (change over time)
  • Discs and pads all corners new or nearly
  • Tires new front and old rear but 6 mil
  • Body has multiple small chips but nothing that puts me off of the car, needs underneath examination
  • Interior very good needs nothing
  • Hard top excellent needs nothing
  • Soft top very good but needs cleaning, re-colour and protect, plastic screen is aweful
  • BBS wheels are generally good but some have significant chips
  • Air con not working, recharge test showed right condensor leaking. Even after recharge air con not working ( not even a few minutes )
  • Exhaust looks like a history of welding, rattles a bit but sounds nice (worry item)
  • Gearbox .. not used to the gearbox and the clutch is dodgy (on/off low down) but there is an odd "metalic click sound" changing gates from third to second (hoping it's normal)

Hi I am also a new member, hopefully will meet a few of you when we can get out again, attached pic my new 996, this one may divide a few of you,

Welcome. Lots of helpful info here - also like the colour of your car! Don't think I ever saw one that colour before.
