I note the new Porsche Classic unit is not suited to the 997, has anyone tried it? Or can anyone recommend a good apple car play unit for a 997 GT3 (just have the radio).

Hi, I had the Pioneer AVIC in my 987 Boxster, and currently have a newer Apple CarPlay AVIC unit in my CLS55 AMG. I highly recommend it for both sound quality and ease of use.

You can connect to the unit via Lightning cable (which is installed in my glovebox) or Bluetooth - so as soon as you get in the car it recognises Your iPhone and starts CarPlay from where you left off. For me (as I work with music) Bluetooth is poor quality, so I either plug it into the cable or listen to CDs instead - the great thing is even if you are listening to a CD you still get your Whatsapp and other messages coming the screen via Bluetooth, and you can dictate your response via Siri. It is surprisingly accurate. And with the hands free kit you can make or answer calls, but in a GT3 you may not be able to hear the missus at the redline ;)

If you can’t find anyone to fit it then give Greg a call at Audio Audio (if you’re near London) and say Rehan sent you and he’ll sort you out.

If you have Bose fitted however That’s more work as you may need an amp and speakers too because they run at different OHMs. I had to rip out the Bose in my Boxster. I wouldn’t want you to go this far but for reference this is what they did to my Boxster:
