Now the lock down is relaxed a little bit I took the opportunity to get the car out for a drive in the sun, get some heat in the engine and tyres plus my son recently bought a new SLR camera and wanted to get some photos. Had a cracking couple of hours out and about and discovered an old RAF runway 15 miles from home so stopped there for some pics

Originally registered in Yarmouth, if I'm not mistaken?

That got my attention - do you say that from the number plate?

I'm not 100% sure if its the original plate as I know it had a personal plate on it for many years until 2008 when it was PX'd in the Swindon Dick Lovett showroom. I can trace the owners back to the 3rd owner and believe the car originally came from Norwich ('Lancaster Ferrari and Porsche dealer' who later became Jardine motors) but happy to be proved otherwise.

Well a slight correction of what I said is necessary, ?EX was a plate issued by the Gt Yarmouth registration office in the days before amalgamation with Norwich in 1974. After 1974 it would, as you indicate, have been issued by Norwich (effectively Norfolk). I don't know if there were any internal allocations to different parts of Norfolk.
Y may have been used for a car late in the issuing year 1 Aug '81 to 31 Jul '82 - also the number indicates a late car in that year. I don't know if that rings true with what you have?

It's a pity you haven't been able to trace it right back to the first owner - have you tried Porsche GB to see if they have a record of which dealer it went to.
My own car was registered in Colchester but bought by a Norwich man who I was able to contact to confirm a few details I was unsure of.

Cheers

That makes sense as the car was first registered 23rd April 1982 so lines up with what you say.

I haven't tried Porsche GB to confirm which dealer it went to (though this may change before the end of the day [:)])

My car doesn't have its original plate as someone put a dateless plate on it in the 80's. The original plate ended up on a bus of all things. It was supplied via Lancaster Garages Norwich. They were the first owner, registered 4 months after invoice date from Porsche, so I guess stock or showroom car? It was one of the first RHD turbos into the UK and launch colour in the brochures. They must of ran it for 3 months after first registration before the 2nd owner bought it from them. DVLA used to supply copies of all old V5's so this is how I know who owned my car from day one. DVLA won't do it now due to 'data protection'.
