Zoom Video Call with Cayman Register Members

With the Club's approval and pending the appointment of a RS (and I am not volunteering), I will host a zoom video call for us Caymanites at 19:30 Wednesday April 1st (no joke) with an end time of 20:30.

There will be rules i.e
be nice,
to coin a phrase "You don't talk about the RS appointment"
don't moan about China/Boris/Politics/not being able to drive

We'll work out what people are interested in and have subsequent 'meetings' based on this.

There is lots of news in the Cayman Islands - GT4, 4.0L GTS, electrification or abomination, deviating stitching, the Givenchy Pink Cayman at Ashgoods etc.

I hope you can join. The url to enter into your favourite browser is

https://zoom.us/j/962014867?pwd=b0NNNE1rUnI5WmRiMGpMVHBMSGViQT09

When you are asked for your name, I suggest you enter your forum name.

Please make sure you have your computer microphone on so we can hear you, and for good manners, your camera also so we can see how handsome a group we are.

Feel free to post on here suggestions for subjects you feel OTHERS would be interested in and subjects YOU'D like to hear more about.

Ralph

Alan, the host is omnipotent and I can remove individuals from a meeting, see my email to you.

Further, I do not have access to the Register members list nor the Register mailchimp (as we don't have, and I am not the RS).

Your question is useful because it raises a general issue on security which might worry members.

In addition to my ability to remove participants who we do not recognise, I would add that I have asked that members sign in to the call using their Forum names (except for me because my zoom account is registered in my name for business) and note that Caymanites have put their names on the Forum to arrange physical meets.

Ralph

The club staff are now working form home and I am sure that George would be abble to send out a dedicated Mail Chimp for all Register members.

Its worth a try.

Peter,

That is something I WILL do for second and subsequent 'meets' but for the first, inviting the more committed communicator cohort on the first call will I hope, get it off on a slightly more focused direction.

On the PCGB Register Secretaries' zoom call last night, we were told that members had complained about receiving too many emails from the Club so dammed if you do and dammed if you don't.

Ralph

Hi Ralph, don't you just have to send the log in number to people who want to join?

SWS

oh, I’ve just seen it in the link you’ve posted.

Hi Andy,

As we know you that will be fine, please sign in with your Forum name.

Thanks for checking.

Ralph

Hi Ralph,

I hope that I'll be available for this. I've been using FaceTime and Skype for staying in touch with friends and family using my iPad, but haven't yet participated in a Zoom conference call.

Do you know if I need to download the Zoom app, in which case I think I'll need an ID for the meeting (is it 962014867?) or can I just use the URL?

Topics for discussion? I'll give it some thought because if there a large number of participants, it could turn into a free-for-all without a bit of structure and a firm chairperson - which I'm sure you'll be Ralph.

Jeff

Jeff,

No app required, it is a non-proprietary platform so just browser access. I have hosted meetings with participants on all manner of devices and once they remember to put the url (my first post refers) into their favourite browser, and put their microphone and camera on, they will be able to fully participate. I am sure forum users will be fine.

Last weekend we had a slightly boozy group all of whom managed to get on including one participant who was able to show us around his new Corvette using his iPhone.

I will provide structure.

Ralph

All, please check this thread from 19:00 Wednesday because if there are any issues I will post status/advice on this thread.

Ralph,

I just get a Safari cannot open the page because the address is invalid.

Jeff

Jeff,

If you are on an iPad or similar, one on the call said he had to download an app - I never had to myself
