Gear box and front diff oil question

hello

Been doing some checking on the type of oil to use. Seems like Mobilube PTX or Shell transaxle 75W-90 is recommended. Both don't seem to be easy to purchase from the regular sources. However I can find Mobilube SHC. Anyone know the difference between SHC and PTX?

many thanks

Just to be forewarned, 22 of the bolts in the pan sheared off on mine not to mention the agro the front diff gave.
I was so pleased that at the last minute I decided to let the OPC do it.
Everywhere quotes it as an easy job and it is but not with 20 years of corrosion in the mix.

They quoted 4 hrs ended up having it for 3 days but charged me 50% of the original 4hr quote, so I was well happy.

That does sound hard! Yes - age and corrosion can be hard to deal with. My car is a manual so was quite straight forward. Your OPC sounds very reasonable. Glad you got that resolved.

Hi
I’m also about to tackle gearbox and front diff oil change, did you manage to find a source for Mobilube PTX 75w90 ?
I can only find it in 20lt drums !

by all accounts I will only need around 5 lt.

Any ideas ?

I went with Opie oils recommendation of Motul Gear 300, but I feel my 1st and 2nd gear change has become more notchy since the change.
I think I will look at changing to Mobilube PTX at some point in the near future.
If anyone is interested in splitting a 20lt drum with me feel free to make contact, I will only need 5lt, so will have 3 x 5lt to sell.
