Steering issues

I've thought for a couple of trips my steering was a bit odd. Quite loose in the straight on position but then it hits a stiff point either side on maybe 15 degrees angle.
It still works but it isn't very smooth. The heaviness seemed worse yesterday, caught me out a bit turning when moving slowly.
I don't seem to be loosing fluid lt is on and tension seem fine so any ideas?
I'm hoping its not hydraulic as the parts are getting a bit pricey. I wondered if it might be the UJ seized or similar?
David

That will be the UJ seized up, vague in the centre, and stiff off centre and sometimes feels like it jams

available from Porsche at about 140 if they have any stock, and they are built 180 degrees out.

Replaced the steering shafts on both our 924S's over the last 18 months- got the new shafts from ECP -cost £ 72 ea plus VAT.
Only the bottom UJ bearings on both had worn ( nearest the exhaust) so have 2 shafts here which I believe someone can recondition.

I have rebuild about 15 shafts, there is only one UJ that fits from

Which one chap? There's no Porsche parts on there at all as far as I can see. Presumably you get 2 and replace both ends of the shaft?

I sent my 2 shaft UJ's and had them changed by Dave Mac, who put in stronger pins....

This was on a Manual rack, different to the power steering one but I think it's just the length that's different ? and the UJ 's are the same.
Just found the Invoice, total inc vat and £15 next day courier £126 (April 2019)
Part number GU1540L (15x40mm Steering UJ) £45 each +vat

Used for Racing, so far so good.........

It’s the BM210, which is exactly the same part as Roger quotes above
and just for the record most Porsche parts are not Porsche, they make very few components themselves, it would be far to expensive,

Thanks. Most places will list all the models that a part is applicable for, it helps sales! As you say OEM isn't (usually) actually made by the manufacturer, they assemble parts..

well they have stock now at Porsche,
945 347 027 01 @ £296.99 inc vat

think I will stick to rebuilding them, that's a crazy price

there are quite a few things I can rebuild now, keeps running the car at sensible costs

Who claims stock of the shafts? OPC Swindon have confirmed they are on worldwide backorder with no ETA.

that was east london, but they do get it wrong from time to time,

I would guess Swindon are correct, as its been on the missing list for over a year, but its still a criminal price, they were £127 in 2015, as I have it on my jobs to do list from back then,

I have two spare ones in the shed that i will rebuild as and when I need them.

last time I got some BM210 joints I think they were £32 for 2
