Speedometer for 968 (Nov 1993)

My (Nov 1993 LHD) 968 speedometer has stopped working, and I'm looking for a replacement. Any ideas as to where I might find a used replacement speedo or dash unit at a reasonable price (or know of anyone who has had a similar problem)?

Would a used 944 unit would fit? There may be more of those around. Or maybe a VW unit?

Cheers
Mike Lyonette

I think Jakerade over on the Porsche968uk forum has a spare cluster as I think it's about to be cannibalised as another member has a PCB problem with his cluster! Also it's not unknown for plastic cogs in the system to fail, they are replaceable, I've seen a lot of discussion/fixes on 968uk, be worthwhile checking on there.

Mike, my son had to replace the drive gear for the speedo not so long ago. Not a difficult job and not too expensiv. I can chase him for details of where he bought the gear from if it helps.

Speedo gears . Com I think in Switzerland cost about £25 with postage, not hard job just need a steady hand and don’t bend the needle

you need to strip down the speedo and count the teeth on the gears to make sure you order the correct ones

https://www.odometergears.com/products/Porsche/911-993+94-98/72

that should help, count the teeth first and the other place is www.partworks.de, if your not sure drop Richard a line at partworks he will sort you out

Waylander is our parts guru on 968uk, but I stand by my initial recommendation - and having been until recently a 968 owner for 21 years, the 968 forum on here is unfortunately moribund and the 968uk forum is superb.
