Hi I’m restoring a 78 SC and I’d like to install a retro radio but be able to use my I phone on it for the sat NAV phone and music. Anyone done anything like this already?

Hi Kingcamb,

Apologies for late reply....

I guess a lot of people will tell you that there is nothing better than the roar of your Flat 6 to keep you company but just like you I recently decided to change my radio in the SC as I do sometimes need to be able to make and take calls and on long motorway journeys having some decent tracks playing in the background can help passing the time ??.

A long time ago I had installed a Harman Kardon system in the car to be able to plug in an ipod (the very first ones !!!) using an original Blaupunkt radio as main unit and hiding the HK screen on a hinge in the ashtray so would be out of sight and keeping the interior as original as possible when not in use. This was good for music but not for phone calls..

Technology has now moved on a lot and a couple of months ago I decided to remove this set up and fit one of the new Bremen SQR 46 DAB unit instead. I have to say that I am pretty pleased with it.

The head unit looks in keeping with the car but I can now get calls with bluetooth which was the main reason for changing the unit, and can stream my music from the Iphone as well.

46DAB on the left and my old unit on the right.

DAB also seems to work pretty well (antenna hidden at the bottom of the rear screen so not too intrusive).

Hope this helps.

That looks great! Previous owner fitted a Pioneer with all kinds of animated special effects. I took the removable front off and have never felt the need to put it back!
