Iphone connection issues

Hi , I have a 64 plate Panamera , I always connect my iPhone X via the cable in the glovebox and can change the playlists and scroll song lists using the touchscreen or steering controls. That was until the latest update when now my car will not allow any function from the phones music other than letting me choose a playlist. Even the back and forth arrow buttons no longer work.
I asked Apple to turn my phone back to a previous version which was a no go , they said the problem was with my cars software , it would need an update .
Question is , has anyone else had the same problem and if so what was the solution ?

Are you using an official Apple cable? I know the updates usually invalidate unofficial cables. Try a cable that allows your phone to communicate with your laptop on iTunes. If not can you try bluetooth?
