hi, am doing some work to my 2003 carrera 996, is there anybody with cam locking tools that would sell, rent, or loan , regards to all

Have you checked ebay for kits? The cheapest I've seen is £70 and much cheaper to what I paid a few years ago. Otherwise, you could fabricate them yourself - I even saw a pair on rennlist fabricated from wood!

hi folks just to let you know what im at . removed gearbox, after pure torture with one bell house bolt, spent 2 evenings just torture, eventually got it out, some damage to inner threads but able to sort, went thr procedure for for ims removal, removed ims cover, the brg is like brand new, removed seal, all perfect, no play, inner race unmarked. the car has 80000, carrera 2003, single row, going to renew crank seal as it has small weep, have ordered bits from porsche. i am lucky i have a lift, the gear box bolt was hell. regards to all

Good news on your efforts. IMS bearing failure only affects a small percentage of cars - no consolation to those affected. I've only worked on full engine gearbox removal & believe its much easier than splitting gearbox. Removing exhaust system beforehand helps to reduce mass weight.

if i have ever to do this again drop box and engine, the headache is removing bolts, i went to remove crankshaft sensor, the bolt broke with no torque , now trying to drill out whats left, alum into steel is a disaster, the actual sensor could not be removed in one piece, the crud that builds up is stronger than a weld, i am heating and cooling all the time, i have been informed that ceramic grease is the stuff , anyway, parts ordered, so hope to get all sorted, keep you lot informed, regards

I removed the crankshaft sensor last weekend. The bolt removed ok, but I damaged the plastic housing trying to remove it even dowsed in wd40 and silicon spray. I had to knock it out from inside bell-housing with a block of wood. Whether it still works I will have to test it later.
