Hi Folks,
Hope you can shed some light please.
Took the car out today to stretch its legs! It started off the button as always, literally first turn. Ticking over sweet as a nut. Went down the road, a mile and a half tops onto a dual carriage way went to accelerate and car died and as it did the revs dropped to zero. Coasted to a halt, fortunately in a lay-by. Attempted to restart, but wouldn't fire up not even an attempt. Had a spare DME relay which I replaced, unfortunately this made no difference.
Ended up getting the recovery home.
What do you think? what shall I try next?
Thanks for reading
Cheers
Paul

If you've got someone who can turn the key see if you can hear 2 seperate clicks from the dame's as I had one go 40 miles into a journey and it was the fuel pump which requires a bit of a lollipop stick to keep it open so I could drive to Northways for a replacement.

Thanks Gordon. I think it may be spark related and have been lead to believe that this issue may be due to the crank position sensor failing.

Cars is all sorted. It was the CPS.

Is this an age/mileage related failure or just bad luck?
Possibly a combination of both, but suspect age and fatigue are the most likely cause. The new sensor is a 996 part.

I guess what I am getting at is should we all change the CPS at the next service opportunity on the basis it is due to fail sooner rather than later now?
