How does water run into sills?

I'm just restoring a 944... this is it at the moment:

And starting to work through the niggles... lots of them... first is leaks. Sill have all been replaced but just did a hose pipe test and i can see the run marks through the door jam vent holes, where the water has run down into the sills. You can see it is dripping from above and running down the inner wheel tubs.

The one side could be from a hole behind the filler cap... is this supposed to be left exposed like this, but doesn't explain this happening on both sides:

I have just replaced the sunroof seal, and cleared and checked the sunroof drain hoses are working... they were not, but are now. Any ideas would be super helpful.

Hi Nick,
The way the cabin ventilation works on 944s is quite clever. Air gets drawn in at the vents around the inside of the rear hatch. it passes through the body tub and into the doors via the twin grilles in the back of the door and the B pillar. That's why the door grille (If I remember correctly) has a rubber seal around it. Driving all this flow is the low pressure area outside the leading edge of the doors caused by the car's aerodynamics. The effect of all this is that stale but (hopefully) dry air from inside the car gets pulled through the body tub and doors and sucked out at the front of the doors when the car is moving, helping to keep those areas dry too.
Having said all that, it seems that if your hatch seal lets in water in an area where it can reach the inside vents, that water will get drawn into the tub too, so that's where I'd look.
I had a look at the hole in the filler area, and mine has a fitting, it looks like there's a drain pipe connected to it.
Hope this helps,
Steve

Hi Steve,

This helps so much yes!! Thanks!! And now those door jam vents and door vents suddenly make sense too.

I think it is likely the rear hatch seal then as it still needs a little adjustment on the latch pins... really helpful taking the photo of the little drain grommet, that makes total sense that it directs it out the back. I'll ring Porsche tomorrow and see if they are still available or try and get one from somewhere.

The drain in the filler cap area gets clogged allowing water to pass into the sills, take the side boot carpet out and it is fitted to a T junction which connects to the sunroof drain tube, clean it out.
