I have a 981 and a few months ago I lifted the rear part of the soft top to get to the "parcel shelf" behind the seats to hoover the surface of various bits of debris.
While the rear part of the roof was up I also cleaned the rubber seal which contacts the underside of the boot lid.
The rubber seal itself is attached to the soft top material.
The seal should guide any water coming off the roof along to the B pillar where the gaps are so that the water drains down to the ground via the drainage tubes.
Now I have seen a number of 986's with crudely applied mastic to old roofs where the seal meets the roof fabric presumably to stop water leaking past the rubber seal and into where ever it can go downwards.
The other day, I was drying off my roof before putting the car into the garage and I noticed that the water droplets running off the rear window reached the seal and then disappeared downwards instead of running sideways to the B post drainage.
That's worrying, where is the water going. And these were just a few drops, when out in the rain how much water is passing the seal.
Has anyone else noticed this and how is the best way to fix it without plastering it with mastic sealant.
