This is a link to a presentation on the new powertrain technologies adopted in the 992 model range. It gives some insight into how much has gone into what might otherwise be assumed to be minor engine changes when moving to a new body/chassis generation. Link allows viewing and optionally downloading a pdf file.

Jeff,

For me, an interesting topic on your above Porsche Newsroom link is the piece devoted to tyre development for Porsches. I noted the comments from the tyre manufacturers that developing tyres for the GT Porsches was a whole lot simpler than for the mainstream series models. Track focused tyres for specialist GT cars are defined by their need for ultimate performance in high traction and cornering load conditions, combined with suspension systems specifically attuned for performance. Mainstream series cars on the other hand have more complex tyre performance requirements due to the variation of chassis specifications on individual models, and also the type of driving and variable road surfaces likely to be encountered on daily driving.

It was also interesting to confirm the fact that all N rated Porsche tyres are axle specific. N rated tyres are constructed according to whether they are transmitting power and torque, or steering and weight transfer braking forces.

All good informative stuff.

Yes Brian, and it does show the importance - or desirability at the very least - of fitting N-rated tyres.
