Transporting the dog in our Macan

Having recently purchased our first front engined Porsche, a Macan S Diesel as our family transport I was wondering if any of you have any recommendations for a dog crate to transport our Cocker Spaniel safely.

As our dog is not that big, I was hoping to find a solution that would fill up to half of the boot leaving us with some luggage space too, but given the shape of the boot and the sloping rear glass, most of the car cages that we have looked at simply don’t fit. Have any of you experienced Macan’ers found a suitable option?

Many thanks,

Martin

Our big German Shepherd occupies the whole boot space, but we bought a Porsche boot tray and a rear bumper protector and this seems to work well.
I would think it should be fairly easy to fit a partition so as to divide the tray into separate compartments for dog and luggage.
Regards,

Clive

We failed to find a dog guard with separator, these are only available on a Cayenne

we settled on the dog guard in the link, which is very Well made, attached via the rear seat mechanism, with a tray for our Labrador, as mentioned a film protection on the rear bumper was also done

the only issue we have found is the Porsche OME tray is hard plastic and the boot contents dogs or luggage do slide around

Hi Clive & Gary,
Thank you both for your advice and suggestions, I have found the dog guard but am struggling to find a suitable divider. As our Spaniel is a relatively smaller dog we need something to keep her in a smaller space to stop her sliding around and also to give us some luggage space. However, the Porsche Centre kindly supplied us with a boot mat that has a flap that you can put over the rear sill which seems a good idea. We shall keep looking for a practical solution.

In the meantime Gary, are you coming along to the Region 5 meeting at the Deanwater Hotel on Wednesday the 14th?

Cheers,
Martin

Hi Martin

yes I plan to make the Deanwater intro for New Members

I couldn’t find a divider either
there is a Scottish company doing bespoke dog crates, but for our Labrador we would need full width which defeats the object

Hi Gary,

I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday.

I have been doing some further research and have found a firm that say they make a Macan size single cage, they are expensive but seem to be the only option that I can find: https://mimsafeuk.com/variocage/

I’ll report back in case they are of use for any other Macan owners.

Martin

Thanks Gary, unfortunately they only do the double crate and not a single one. I think that I’m going to give the Safedog Variocage a go.

I believe doghealth was one we had for the mini schnauzers so similar size to yours .
good to meet you at Beaulieu.hopefully see You October
all the best

Thank you for your replies and suggestions, we went for the Safedog Variocage and are pleased with the purchase. Although it was more expensive than I was hoping, it does exactly what we wanted and is easy to remove. The service was excellent, the parcel arrived really quickly, the crate is of excellent build quality and was easy to assemble. Best of all our dog Daisy seems quite happy with it too.

We bought this via Amazon when we got our latest Lab puppy. https://arrows-uk.com/product/pet-world-car-dog-crate-porsche-macan-pet-carrier-travel-crate/
Size was great and it fitted nicely against the angle of the rear seat backs. It pretty much maximises the available space so there’s not really any luggage space left. We did however find some sharp ends on the metal mesh. I could have filed them down but would have had to faff around repainting them to stop rusting. We returned it for a full and painless refund and then bought a smaller and much cheaper Ellie-Bo cage, again via Amazon. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B009L47W0W/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_0F9XKRWS8TTM8JHAM730
This has been fine, but at 5 months old she is rapidly outgrowing it, so I think we will be back to square one soon, and may need to try another Arrows cage. Once past the chewing stage I think we’ll go for the Trav-all guard and a boot liner.

Hi, I am about to order a macan s and this looks perfect for our little cockerpoo the link you post does not show the exact model and size you chose.
