Anyone in SE London/Kent have a Carnewal / Hayward & Scott exhaust mod I could hear?

Hi all,

I picked up my 987.2 (2.9) a few weeks ago. I'm loving the car, but like many others want a little bit more bark from the exhaust.

The two options I'm looking at are bypass pipes from Hayward and Scott in Essex (£250), or the Carnewal mod (about £450). I wondered if anyone in the general area (I'm based in Swanley) has had either of these mods done and wouldn't mind me hopping in for a short journey to see how it sounds before I go ahead with it.

I've read of a few people being underwhelmed with their bypass mods (although this is probably due to the pipe diameter used) and from the videos I've seen of the Carnewal mod I thought it didn't sound like what I'm after, however appreciate a video isn't the way to really tell!

Many thanks

Joe

It's a late reply but if I am London based and have a Carnewal GT exhaust fitted to a 987.2 PDK, if that can help you.

Thanks for the help.

I actually just had the Hayward and Scott bypass done last weekend! So no need anymore.

Gives the car a nice burble. I wouldn't say pops and crackles but burble is more accurate. Doesn't notice much at all with the windows up, but sounds nice with the windows down.

I was expecting it to make a big difference at high rpm but the sound of the engine drowns out the exhaust in the cockpit at anything over 3000rpm, I'm sure it sounds better to passers by though!

All in all i would say it sounds how it should have from the start, rather than much of an aftermarket noise.

I rented an Abarth 124 Spyder on holiday last week. The drone was infuriating! I'm glad I didn't go for anything more extreme on the Cayman, it made me realise how important a refined car is if you're using it for any extended amount of time which the Hayward and Scott mod retains whilst sounding a bit better.

Ian is a great guy, I would highly recommend them for any exhaust work! It took 4 hours so I took the MTB and rode over to Hadleigh park (Olympic MTB course) whilst they did the work.

Good to hear, enjoy! I mostly drive long-distance and I use earplugs; especially on the autobahn as the sum of road, engine, wind and exhaust noise gets tiring over many hours.

The other thing that helps with the exhaust is the Sport/Sport+ mode if you do not already have it.

Makes sense! I hadn't considered ear plugs but my OH would have gone mad if she needed to wear them whilst in the car, so I'm glad I have a quiet option! I might give them a go on a motorway drive at some point anyway.

Unfortunately I only have a basic spec with no sport mode etc, I'd love to have the option to change it on demand though.

I just need to find a x-pipe going for a reasonable price so I can change the single exit exhaust to twin pipes now. £300 for the x-pipe + tips or approx £450 for one with tips included is a bit too much for me to justify on top of the bypass at the moment!

You can add that ! :)

(I mean the Sport/Sport Plus mode to modify the engine response, not the Sport exhaust actuator.)

You will not get the chronometer on top of the dashboard but you will get a new panel with two additional buttons (Sport, Sport Plus) and a software update.

From the Tequipment catalogue, the Sport mode subsequent installation Part number for a manual car is 997 044 903 01 and the one for a PDK is 997 044 903 02. A recent quote from an official dealer (the new panel + software licence + labour and factoring in the PCGB membership) was around the £800 mark.

That's the main problem with after-market exhausts Joe, especially on a closed coupe like the Cayman. Unless it's really loud (and probably rather annoying on a long drive!) I suspect that inside the car it's just as likely that you're hearing intake rather than exhaust sound, and that's if you can hear that above engine, tyre and wind noise..!

Thanks for the update anyway.

Jeff
