Mandatory disc replacement ?!?

Just had our Macan 2.0 in to the OPC as brake pad wear indicator had come on (vehicle has done 22k miles).
They have replaced both front and rear pads AND both front and rear discs. Front discs were 80% worn so reasonable to replace, however rears were only 60% worn. Technicial insisted it is mandatory to replace discs once the pad wear indicator has been triggered ! This seems crazy that discs that still have 40% left and could go on for 10k miles have to be replaced.
Has anyone else come across this nonsense ?

I'm not sure it's completely nonsense bearing in mind it's bi-annual service intervals with Macan and brakes on a Porsche are really quite important. Rear rotors aren't that expensive.

I renewed the front pads and rotors myself at around 30k. The rears were OK, although I'm sure the pads must have been replaced at some time - I really can't remember.

10K miles further on, they are still fine and all's well according to the recent check our Register organised at Tewkesbury PC.
Maybe, I'm just not driving fast enough! [;)]

Just picked up this query. I had the same issue back in May 18.

I can’t work out how to link you back to my post from this time so just copied and pasted the header At the bottom if you want to review.

I’m now at 31k and car going in late August for its 1st major Service. I shall be interested to see what comments I get on the brakes.

Since May 18 only driven in manual mode. Original tyres which flew through the Mot back in March still have plenty of thread left.

Well the car had its first major service today at 32.5k miles. A tad under £1,800. I knew it would cost £1,600 and they found a few extra items to add a further £200.

Still got 4.5mm on all four tyres! How long will they last?

Front disk brakes are fine. Back brakes showing a little corrosion and 40% brake wear left.. i.e used 60%.

So change to manual driving has worked. Engine braking is now working and helping to naturally slow the car and save on the brake wear.
