Steering Wheel ‘upgrade’ to paddles

Can I ask for any experience based comment on the feasibility, implications, cost and real benefits of changing the SW on my 2010 997.2 PDK from button to paddle type shift configuration. The current wheel is fully loaded function wise inc. heating if that is a factor.
Thanks in anticipation
Howard Thomas

I changed my Multifunction "Puddles" wheel to Paddles because on track I prefer to change gears manually rather than leaving it to the PDK software and I didn't find the the "Puddles" very convenient or intuitive to use in those circumstances.

My car has memory seats, had heated Multifunction wheel, telephone etc. etc.

I needed a new wheel and stalk module which required to be programmed in via PIWIS (or similar).

I miss the convenience of answering (iPhone) calls from the wheel, but it is no real distraction to press one button above the PCM screen. The settings menu is accessed via a stalk, sound volume is the button by the PCM, again no real inconvenience.

Net, IMHO if you frequently manually select PDK gears, change to paddles; if not keep the extra convenience of the multifunction wheel.

I changed to a paddle steering wheel on my 997.2 and was very happy with it. I
started overriding the manual change quite often, and still do, almost without thinking. I don't think the old wheel was multifunction however so as per the previous response, I guess you may have to sacrifice some of the functionality. But the paddles are well worth having imo.
Good luck,

I changed over to paddles, but it was an easier choice as it wasn’t a multi function wheel, from a driving experience point of view the paddles give a more intuitive feel than the button shift.

..... a thank you to everyone for the feedback. In particular the comment from 'ralph music' ... if you frequently manually select PDK gears, change to paddles; if not keep the extra convenience of the multifunction wheel ...... has helped consolidate my thoughts.

You can also install a multifunction paddle steering wheel (e.g. from Macan or Panamera) as well, which I’ve done with heating also on my Gen 2.

Oh , that might change my judgement. Not sure if I am allowed to ask about the 'cost' topic on this open forum but if not perhaps you could send me a PM ?
Out of interest was this SW switch something you assigned to your OPC or .... ?

Can PM you regarding details, as long as your car is a Gen 2 with multifunction steering wheel enabled (and heated if going with heating also), then it is a fairly straightforward installation requiring the new steering wheel with airbag (I bought mine used, but in very good condition) and a wiring loom harness from a company called GPS.

Just to add to the options, I've modded the wiring on my MF 997.2 wheel to have the 'towards you' function on the wheel do the "+" function on the right switch and the "-" function on the left. I disabled the 'away from you' function on both sides. I actually did this on a S/H wheel I found on ebay, so I could keep the original wheel as stock.
