Hello - Help on Passenger Door Not Opening and Folding Roof

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post so apologies if I don’t make sense at first or waffle on too much.

I’ve been looking at a 2006, 2.7, manual Boxster with 82000 miles on it with full and regular Porsche Specialist Servicing (with documents etc)

I‘ve followed all the advice from the website of my local Porsche Specialist in Leeds and have some questions.

1- The car tested really well but when my passenger attempted to get out the passenger door, it wouldn’t open. Is there a child lock on these cars and if so where is it located or is it a common issue?

2- I checked the air-con and the convertible roof and everything worked fine, except when closing the roof, it needed some assistance over the door. It seemed to coggle up a bit. A quick partial reopen and guiding the roof covering back into the plastic panel seemed to work a treat but again is this common? The roof otherwise worked fine.

Last one, would a Porsche Specialist entertain looking at a car for me of this age and value (£7700) or should I accept there is likely to be something I will have to fix

One of the reasons I joined the club was to get expert advice from people who own the car, so I’m hoping you have the answers

Thankyou in advance

Sam

Hi Sam, I'm no expert but did your passenger pull door lever twice - its a porsche thing ! If not try the the lock button in centre of dash.
Regarding the hood - likeliest problem is the elastic stretching - an easy DIY fix .Any good Porsche specialist would help /advise/ or fix problems on any age car.More information available on the brilliant Boxa.net - any questions on there always get informed replies with demands for photos and weed free drives :ROFLMAO:
Regards
Adrian

Hi Adrian,

Thanks for replying to this,

My passenger did pull the door lever twice, we tried the unlock button in the centre panel also. We ended up opening the door from the outside.

What do you mean by ''...it's a Porsche thing"? Is there some newance I should be aware of?

Once again really appreciate your help

Hi Sam,

I have to say that you've absolutley done the right thing in joining the Club to get advice, the only problem being that you do really need to have someone with the necessary experience to look at the car to give you the best advice.

It sounds as though the car has been well looked after but it would definitey be worth having a pre-purchase inspection carried out by a Porsche specialist (I'm sure your local Leeds specialist will be happy to help). You could possibly recoup the cost of the inspection by negotiating a price reduction for work required such as the door locking and roof problems you describe - and maybe others that you haven't found..!

Have you tried contacting your local Club Regional Officer for advice? Definitely a worthwhile first port of call. You can the necessary contact details here:

Good luck!

Jeff

Hi Jeff
Thanks for your advice, we had thought of getting it checked over would be money well spent and you've just confirmed that! I'm also going to contact our local region for further advice, hoping they can put us in touch with some similar owners.

Ref 2. There is a plastic knuckle joint each side, easily replaced, that is part of the hood mechanism. Drivers side on mine broke. Roof would close but only with assistance. I panicked a bit and had OPC fix it for £250. Could be that and could be a lot less.

I’d get an Indy to check it out. Well worth the cost

Good luck. You won’t regret it!

Hi Sam
I’m part of the Region 7 CoG (Co-ordinators Group) and happy to help in any way I can.
It‘s very sound advice to have a pre purchase inspection carried out because not only might it provide something to negotiate the purchase price with, it will also provide peace of mind and that’s worth a lot.
The specialist I use and rate highly is Revolution Porsche with premises in Birstall and Brighouse. Strasse in Leeds also has an excellent reputation and they support the club with the Yorkshire Porsche Festival (4th August).
My Boxster is a 2005 Boxster S. Region 7 has over 1100 members and is very vibrant with a wide range of events, great people from this month, club nights in the north, south, east and west of Yorkshire. I look forward to meeting you and making you feel at home in the club. Please look at the R7 Forum for details and if you’d like to send me a PM or email me rogergoode47@gmail.com I’ll provide more information and a calendar of events that includes some events in other regions that we will be attending.
Roger
