2011 Spyder Servicing Cost

My 2011 Spyder is up for a major service shortly.
I called my local OPC Hatfield who have quoted me £1,483 !! I asked her to check but she was adamant that's the price with brake fluid and she hasn't made a mistake..
I then tried Reading who quote £1,059
Quality indies come in at £488 and £618.
Prices above are for 40k service+brake fluid (and incl. VAT) so apples to apples.

Whilst in theory it doesn't matter, as I have a Porsche warranty I have historically preferred to stay in the network, and fully accept that you pay a premium for a Macan for the day and the shiny showroom & official stamp in the book, but this spread is now just ridiculous. Any sage advice from anyone on here ?

On a Major service prices soon start to rack up
Plugs air filter drive belts to name a few extras to be added to your oil & filter brake fluid pollen filter .
I would get the exact price of everything before committing don't forget your PCGB discount.
Prices are more attractive at a good independent especially for a major service.

Err. Change the oil filter, change the oil, change the air filters, change the polen filter, cancel fault codes with a lap top, top up your washer fluid, wash your car and hoover the mats sir, oh’ and weve changed your brake fluid sir, there you go sir fifteen hundred quid sir, Thank you very much sir ??

The only reason that an OPC can charge such exorbitant prices, as with other things on sale in this country, is that the general public seem happy to pay over the top.
If people were to walk away from overpriced items then the rip off merchants would not have any customers to sell their overpriced goods to so would have to lower their prices to an acceptable level in order to attract custom and keep trading!!
Was recently quoted £450 for a service on my BMW 335D. I told them it was too much for an oil change and air and pollen filter and asked for a lower price. The staff member shot off to see the invisible manager that resides somewhere in the unseen bowels of the dealership and came back with a price of £400.
Still too much I said, you have say £100 in parts and at the very max 2 hrs labour which is £150 an hour for a mechanic which is too dear. They wouldn't go any cheaper so I walked away!!
Took it to my local garage where it received a proper old fashioned service, brakes cleaned, engine flush solution before oil and all filters, tyre pressures done, all lock and catches lubed etc etc Service indicator was also reset. I was even allowed to participate and do a few extra bits I wanted to do myself whilst the car was on the ramp. I received an invoice of £185 for that which I reckon is a lot better than being ripped off by BMW for £400!!!

Just my humble opinion??????

I checked the fixed price servicing as shown on the official website with Porsche. This only applies out of reach of london apparently. The pricing also varies by model older being cheaper. Apparently.

My experience of my OPC My Sept 2011 Spyder 12.500K is due a service in 2019 so due the major one My last ones in Sept 2015 was major inc Brake fluid .Plugs oil Etc was £917 ….. My Sept 2017 minor inc Brake fluid V Belt change (6Yr) oil etc was £596.
My last one on the 981 Spyder (now sold) in 2018 was £460 minor inc brake fluid oils etc ...I negotiate my costs with the service manager I have never paid menu price.
One the other hand ...
New to me a 986 recently purchased I thought would treat to a oil and filter change called OPC for prices quoted a staggering cost MOB1 0-40 inc Filter and washer was £181 this is supply only ..went one line same deal via Euro parts delivered £48.00 some mark up .
I will think long and hard about the next service as I do not intend to add warranty at £1640 for 2 years did it in Sept 2015 and only covered 1400 miles a complete waste of money .Yes nice to have a full OPC stamp etc but there comes a time does it realy devalue the car .

Yes agree Brian nice to have Opc stamp in the book but on Major services well north of a thousand pounds plus, a well known independent carriers just as much weight when you dont have a warranty at half the price.

I have the warranty and have just checked the paperwork and all it says is the car must be serviced to manufactures spec. I would prefer to stay OPC to avoid any agg. but not for a grand, that's ridiculous. So I will take the risk and be prepared to fight IF OPC declined something due to non franchise servicing.

Spoke with a member today who put his car in for the 111 point check to put a 2 year warranty on it ..only comment was one off the rear tires had been repaired and they could not issue a pass , but if he got a new tyre fitted my them it will be fine ...asked the cost was quoted £300 declined and asked if he can supply the tyre and they charge a nominal fee to fit ...NO the reason they do not know the tyres source and cannot warranty it ….what a load of ********************

Matthew,

I think the important phrase is: the car must be serviced to manufacturer's spec. Provided the garage can verify that Porsche parts and recommended lubricants, etc. are used, legally you can have the work carried out anywhere. I'm sure that you can locate a reliable local Porsche specialist - Jaz Porsche, JZM Porsche and RPM Technik spring to mind in the Hatfield area - whose prices should be more reasonable, although Porsche servicing never comes cheap.

My own experience with Hatfield is that the price seems to depend upon the person to whom you speak. I always contact the same service rep and seem to get a better price than speaking to the Service Dept. Maybe it's because I always make sure that I give him a good feedback report..!

Just coughed up a little over £1000 for a major service including plugs but no belt. During the service they noted that all pads and disks were nearing the end of their life and they would likely need replacing at next service. I was contemplating ordering the genuine parts and doing the job myself as I am more than capable of changing pads and disks.

Would this invalidate my Porsche warranty?

I can't see how you'd invalidate your Porsche warranty if you're using genuine Porsche parts; unless you'd fitted them incorrectly. Just keep all the receipts to prove that you purchased genuine parts.
