Hi,

Collected my Guards Red GT4 from Porsche Centre Bolton last week, and the first thing they told me was that the car had a new gearbox fitted in mid-March. Happy days, at least they were very proactive and sorted it before sale.
I asked if the clutch had also been changed, but they said it was checked thoroughly and didn't need replacing.
They didn't mention the diff, but I am sure whatever needed to be replaced, was.

Seems odd that Getrag would change the gearbox manufacture so late in the production cycle. The cars affected were registered between March and May 2016. Mine was registered at the very end of March.

Cheers,
Mark

Mark,

I'm pretty sure that the whole transaxle will have been swapped-out and not just the gearbox. Changes are often introduced as cost savings, but it looks as though this one has come back to bite Getrag..! The interesting thing to note is that the same transmission will have been installed in all the 981 Boxsters, Caymans and Spyders during those three months, but there's been no hint of a recall on them...yet!

Sounds as though you're all set to enjoy the new car now the weather's improving (allegedly).

Thanks Jeff, we have put 350 miles on already this last week, trying to enjoy the dry weather and get used to the car. It's amazing. Having had a 996 911 Carrera, 997 Carrera S, two 987 Boxster S' and a 718 Boxster S, that's saying something. Always wanted a GT car and the GT4 manual was top of the list. It hasn't disappointed!
