DSC Sport V1 Controller

In tyres for touring thread back in December, JCX mentioned a DSC Sport V1 Controller as a plug and play modification to PASM suspension. I have done a bit of surfing and it seems a pretty amazing piece of kit. Does anyone have experience of this? I have searched this site and there does not seem to be a previous thread.

JCX - it would be good to hear your opinions on this!

I have been running a DSC V2 controller since late 2016 on my somewhat modified Cayman.

Question is what are you looking to achieve?

It will provide a more compliant ride on normal road conditions because it uses more of the available damping range than PASM. The standard maps for 981/991 series are not that much different between Normal and Sport but I don't know whether this is also true of the V1 box.

I have changed the mapping on my installed V2 box as I use the car on track and in less than a minute can change the damping from road to track and to a softer wet track map. It does deliver improved compliance on the road; my car has very much stiffer springs and I have a "wife" map that is softer than I would normally use and my wife will now countenance travelling in the car.

If you want to use it for better track handling, you'll need to get into the mapping which can be a steep learning curve, I've tried around 25 maps to get where I am now.

In any event it is best to first ensure the suspension components are all in good working order before spending c£1,300 on DSC.

Thank you both for such prompt and positive replies.

The PASM on my 997.1 is working fine, comfy is OK for the driver but passengers don't really think so. Sport is too hard for the roads around here in Gloucestershire and to be honest does not show that much difference on the couple of track days the car does each year. DSC seems to unlock the potential in the PASM system, which seems a bit black and white out of the factory and allows a more comfy ride but more control if the car is driven quickly. This really appeals and I think it goes on the shopping list unless someone puts me off!?

Thanks again Stefan.

I'm looking to install the DSC box (and the necessary 3-axis gyro) on to my 987 CS. Does anyone have any experience of the DSC controller with aftermarket dampers such as Bilstein B6/8s?

After just over 100K miles the dampers on my car are way passed their best and are about to be replaced. I'm trying to decide whether or not to go with standard b4 dampers and keep the original springs, or stump up some cash for a slightly sportier setup including lowering the car by about 10mm. I'm hoping that the increased stiffness in the b6/8 shocks could be offset by using the DSC controller for comfort the worst part of the UK road network. Any thoughts?

Could PCGB not approach DSC Sports with a group order so that members can purchase their controller with a discount ?
I am sure that there are members who would love to upgrade but are finding £1000 a little steep.
Any thoughts ?
Thanks

There have been several attempts by rennlist members to get a group buy but have not been successful.

My advice would be to find others (members or not) to put a group together and approach 9e who might be prepared to share some of their distributor margin for a one-off volume order. You might also try 911uk.com forum for other interested parties.

I am very interested in this as hate the way the standard PASM adjusts the car mid corner. I race single seaters and i am used to feeling the stance of the car in the corner any movement indicating slip angle is exceeded as load changes on a wheel. The standard PASM loading wheels mid corners fools me I hope this might react sooner and more progressively? Otherwise i am looking at stiffer anti roll bars front and rear

Anyone investigated a group buy?

911UK has ran a few group buys via 9e, one pretty recently....you need at least 10 buyers to make it worthwhile but 9e will post to individuals so no one person has to take the strain........they also come up second hand but as there are no parts to wear out they command a premium of around £800 even second hand........ps they are a must have for any car with PASM IMHO......the free software you can download is also fantastic if you are that way inclined.....as well as offering use of the full damper range it offers true 4 way adjustability and fully configurable mapping ........at the very least if you don’t touch the standard maps it makes sport mode useable / useful on UK roads ;-)

Installing a DSC Sport V1 Controller on my 997.2 C2S was an expensive mod. I debated it and read the different forum comments. I can only say that its all true. It made a big difference to the standard ride and even improved the feel during corner entry.
The usefulness of Sport mode after installing the DSC was a revelation! It also separates the functions of the Chrono sport which I find useful.
Definitely worthwhile.

Last week I finally had the DSC Sport V1 controller and the accelerometer fitted to my Gen 1 997 at 9 excellence. After 250 miles on my local roads I am pretty impressed and would not give it back. The car from this drivers point of view, with out of the box settings, is hardly softer in ride but it is much more controlled so feels less skittish over rougher roads - a bit like a compliant roller-skate. The hard setting is as useable as the normal PASM mode but will need a session on track to really establish the difference.

The real clincher is a friend who is a regular passenger noticed how much better/more comfortable the car was - she likes the car but never really felt comfortable as a passenger - that has now changed completely.

If anyone wants me to enlarge on this in a non-expert somewhat subjective way, I can do that.

If a group buy can be organised then please sign me up. I was already on the brink of ordering the dsc v1 plus 3 axis accelerometer to use on my 997 with the b16 damptronics I have sat in my office waiting to be fitted.
Just a small word of warning though. Whilst the controller is plug-n-play the accelerometer does require splicing into one of the wiring looms.

I would be up for a group buy. I was going to buy in the US, which is a saving over UK pricing.

I looked into that too. But with the VAT + Customs + courier fees .... it is just not worth it.
If you need support one day, at least you can get it in the UK.

I was going to get my friend to send it to me - US tracked post and a "$25-value" gift to me...

hi, I’m new to the forum and am very interested in the DSC V1 with 3 axis. Please include me when you get a quote.
