Sunroof hinge replacement 968

Hello everyone

968 Sport 1995 - sunroof hinge question


Hinge repair kit from the very excellent 9 Apart - check
Old hinge cover off and 3 screws not lost in car - check
Spring pin removed from lever - check
Great this really is a 10 minute job.....
Except...
I can't get the pin through the new hinge cover, I know it's a fiddle but even with needle nose pliers I can't compress it enough ( hardly at all actually) to get it through the hole in the hinge cover.
Is there a trick to this I am missing?

All the parts are available from Porsche?

Not sure what bit you are trying to replace, the only hinges as such are on the wind deflector, and they are definitely available as a spare part

And not that expensive either

I'm referring to the two hinges and fastening levers on the of the front underside of the sunroof panel itself. not the deflector

I've got all the bits - I just can't get the locating pin through the new hinge cover .

These are the parts... the locking lever goes on the middle and the pin has to go through the part below and then the lever.

Yes I see your issue now, I guess yours were cracked round thecscrew holes like almost all the others out there, it was almost 5 years ago I replaced mine but I don't remember having too much issue getting the pins back in

I would guess you have tried the pin in the individual parts before assembly

Have you lubed the hole and pin? A reduction in friction should help.

You could try putting the plastic parts in boiling water to expand them slightly before inserting the pin?

Or warm them up in place with a hair dryer

I had to these on my 924 which have the same hinges and remember having the same sort of problems. I think I lightly sanded the pin as mine were slightly rusted. They are pressure fitted into the new parts and I remember them been a bit fiddly but by supporting the opposite side and applying some pressure using some big adjustable pliers so one side supported the opposite hole the pin would slide in, if you get what I mean
