Porsche Club Esso Card

Interesting leaflet and article in December's PP about a Porsche Club branded Esso fuel card that will grant 2p off a litre of Esso Synergy. I've been solely running Shell V-Power in my 996 for the last year... might have to bite the bullet and see if there is any appreciable difference between the two. There are also more Esso garages near to where I live, so perhaps the fates are conspiring!

For those that haven't yet received it and are interested: go to: www.essocard.com/porsche

I could not see anywhere on the flyer where it said how I might get my 2p back, so I called them. You don't pay at the petrol station, instead you'll get a direct debit to your bank account after 7 days (I guess weekly) and this is at the 2p/1p off pricing and seems to be irrespective of what vehicle is filled with fuel.

Not sure I see many Esso stations but I see no downside.

yes that's correct , its a standard PCGB fuel card, I have had mine for a week or so now.. its great if you use your car a lot & care about the quality of fuel you use. & if you do track days it will really pay off. its paid monthly by DD. and yes its assigned to the person not the car.

Not sure about track days though, nearest Esso to Silverstone is Milton Keynes (according to Esso). Fuel at circuits is often expensive and to drive out for cheaper fuel is extra miles and track time. Monthly DD better than weekly.

Not knocking card, I'll use it wherever Esso is convenient and competitive, now off to fill out that on-line form

Sounds good, thanks for the info Paul. I use mine all year round and most days, so makes sense to me. Do you happen to know if it covers Esso on the continent as well?

Their website says yes

Re payment frequency, each week's fuel costs are billed the following (2nd) week and collected by direct debit the 3rd week. I've signed up for three cards for family members so we'll see whether it's worthwhile.

Apparently the cards can also be used at Tesco Express fuel stations, but not regular Tesco supermarkets.

Esso's 97 RON means I won't be using it for Porsche cars though

I've signed up and will most likely use it for sticking synergy+ diesel in the Discovery and keep running my Porsche on V-Power.

Using 97 RON fuel rather than 99 RON? That's going to make a huge difference to the performance..![;)]

Just to point out that 97 RON is the minimum octane rating allowed for Super Unleaded in the UK (and EU?). It could be that Esso are just being conservative by advertising Synergy Supreme+ as 97 RON when the actual rating could be higher.

Esso also make the point that their product "has more cleaning power than our regular petrol – and includes molecules whose job it is to reduce the friction in your engine, helping to prevent wear and helping the moving parts work more efficiently", so that potentially there are other advantages which are similar to those claimed by Shell for V-Power.
