Porsche has recently sent out a recall order to customers who own the 718 Boxster and Cayman after a mechanical error was spotted. It was found that drivers who were throwing used cigarettes out of their windows could potentially set fire to their cars.

i received an email from ZunSport Today. I was already thinking about getting their grilles.

this is now a no brainer.

here is the full email.

Hi there

Porsche has recently sent out a recall order to customers who own the 718 Boxster and Cayman after a mechanical error was spotted. It was found that drivers who were throwing used cigarettes out of their windows could potentially set fire to their cars.

Visit our blog for further information on the Porsche 718 GTS Recall - click here.

Whether you're a smoker or not, it's important to ensure your car is safe. You can never rule out the chance another driver will flick a cigarette butt out of their window, only for it to land in your air intake vent.

Thankfully, you don't need to rely on Porsche's inferior-looking solution. Choose Zunsport - our side vent grills for Porsche 718 GTS models completely replace the manufacturer solution with something far better looking, and completely cover the vents to protect you against the risk of engine fire.

Kind Regards
Peter Langston

This recall, I have to say, seems somewhat bizarre given the number of years 911 turbos, Boxsters and Caymans have had these side intakes without, it would seem, any problems with the cars catching fire (and through the years when more people smoked too!) What has changed on the 718?

Sounds like they are jumping on the bandwagon to make money, the Porsche fix is free of course and only relates to the side intakes. Certainly the front grilles produced by Zunsport look good, however the side intake grilles are a matter of personal choice and look a bit numb covering the whole of the outside of the intakes, something more discrete fitted inside the intakes would be my choice.

My 981 CS already has the grilles that are proposed in the 718 recall, I assume that they were standard fitment.
