A few days in Scotland with the Perfect Car, 987.2

After the really good week in France a few weeks ago, and the wife's birthday in mid October, we tripped off to Scotland for 5 nights in the Boxster.
Did no prep to the car, just weather gear, small cases and a new book of maps and 2 big smiles.

Got 1/2 way up to just south of Glasgow with a steady even cruise through past Oulton Park circuit, to Liverpool and through the Lakes in light and very hard rain, zero probs and zero drama.
Following day was a bit special for me tbh.
Some years ago we travelled a very 'moody' road from Tyndrum to Glencoe, I wrongly call it the James Bond road from a recent film.

It opens wides, gets narrow, the mountains close in and the valley gets deeper and undulating, the sky are light and dark, rainbows switch on and switch off, bliss and just the best in the Boxster.
Took a 'few' snaps along the way...(A82 for reference)
Joy was we turned round in Glencoe and drove it back!
With that out of the hair, off to 3 nights in a small pub/hotel in Meikleour north of Perth.
Treated to cool and dry weather, this place was great to stay in for a very warm welcome, out of this world food and a vast comfortable room, 987 parked right outside.
The trees were on the turn, yet more 987/scenery pictures and many miles on some of the quietest twisty B roads you will find.
Diversions abounded, but then the detours took us to areas we would never have seen so were a bonus in the end.

Homeward bound and took a quick vivit to the entrance of Doune hillclimb in Stirling then to Dalbeattie for an overnight.

Cruised back, nearly, today, but the M6 was closed at J19 and wee 'cleverly' peeled off early along with a 1,000,000 others, mainly lorries and vans and we very very slowly threaded through Warrington and to Oulton Park again before escaping the traffic and ran for home.

No problems, car took it all inc the 1.5 hour traffic jam almost on tick-over all the time and gave 33 mpg.

Brilliant! [:)]

Glad you enjoyed your short stay in God,s country ..fortunate to have this within a hours drive from our house .In fact a group from R1 are doing a run up the self same road today (Skyfall ) and up to Glencoe .the weather to day is dry. blue sky .and 4deg ideal hood down weather with the heaters on .

That sounds a good trip, it is a great road, and not too many others on the road at the time For us.
Not a road for speed, just to marvel at the Scottish contrast of light, weather and colour!

We had a fortnight in Scotland with our 987.2 back in May, including the NC500 and a trip over to Lewis and Harris. Perfect car for those perfect roads. Top down nearly all the time too - you have to otherwise you can’t see the scenery towering above you.
The A82 from Tyndrum to Glencoe is indeed a fabulous road and one I know well courtesy of 25 years of trips up to Glencoe for winter climbing. I’ve not driven the Boxster as fast as I once drove an Impreza Turbo through Glencoe in those (slightly) less sensible days.
Good as that road is, there are some even better roads waiting for you if you can travel further north. Hope you can make another trip soon. Keep heading north.

Thanks for sharing that. What a road trip! I was in the Highlands earlier this year (I'm embarrassed to say it was my first time). I couldn't believe the scenery. And the roads! I'd love to do it in a Boxster. I think you're right when you say it's the perfect car for such a trip. I bet the sound of that beautiful flat six bouncing off the sides of the mountains was something close to heaven!

Nice pics and agree, the scenery up there is spectacular.

Planning to do this with either my son or the mrs in 2019.

We've done the Highlands a few times before, but never in anything like the Porsche.
Will be my 3rd year of ownership and I don't have any plans to move on to anything else yet!

Good to see this little trip is bringing out 2019 plans!

We are planning a mega trip in the Boxster to the Mille Miglia via some nice spots in France. We are no strangers to these parts but usually in a hire car.
Just a small prob that fly/drive is far cheaper...and we hate the Dover to home run back. French roads spoil you.

Scotland again in October, to the west coast islands I think.

Easy to get good pics in Scotland, the scenery is beaconing, so lots of pictures!

Had a great drive out today in beautiful East Riding of Yorkshire, Fraisthorpe beach, lunch at The Cow Shed, 3.5 degrees.
Happy days.

If visiting Doune, the Deanston distillery is nearby. They have a good coffee shop and of course other beverages can be sampled and purchased. Interesting place too, as used to be a mill and converted to a distillier.

We went to Doune, right to the start of the hill climb track.
never run the that hill in competition, but also missed that Distilary!
