Car up for sale

My RS60 is up for sale on Pistonheads, never been so not bothered if anybody bites. In fact if it does not sell I shall drive it next year. Shall be 60 next year and old fart syndrome might just be clicking in as I wold like another classic car. If it goes the hunt is on for a rot free Jaguar XJ6 From the 70s, preference is a MK1 with manual box, a tuff hunt that would be. ??

60 is the new 40

keep the Porsche 🤣👍

🤪🤣. I wish Dylan.
Keep the Porsche or I’m sure you’ll regret it I’ll be 71 in a month and I enjoy every minute behind the wheel of one my Porsches 944 S2 Coupe, 911/996 Coupe and Boxster S 987 It and mixing with the great and mostly younger than me help to keep me feeling you. Keeping the cars looking their best helps to keep me supple. I’ve just spent 14 hours over 2 days bringing the rather nice BMW Z4M Coupe of my youngest son up to scratch (an unfortunate word)

I cant do with old folk, many of whom are younger than me 😂

Age is a strange thing, I am 72 and have just bought my first Boxster, a used 981 but I am now enjoying my motoring again even if I am a bit slower than in my earlier life [:)]

Good for you Art. Long may you enjoy your motoring. Perhaps we should set up a septuagenarian group but only for those who behave as if they are half their age.

😂 loving the replys, I enjoy the car, can nip in and out just fine, can drive it like I feel 40, but a classic Jag with a legendary straight six Xk engine or even better a race derived V12 is something I would love to drive before it’s too late for my generation. They are all on borrowed time ALL these cars and I love being politically incorrect. Hate the thought of no sound, no combustion, no blogs as to which plugs, which tuning, which oil, which exhaust. It’s a world of bland indifference on electricity. So bring on the big cat with its V12 and it’s exposed plumbing, Stromberg carbs and finickity ignition, it’s gentlemans club dash full of period gauges. Even it’s rear inboard disks that are a pain in the arse to maintain. It’s a British legend, born out of an era of endless industrial action, a second hand production line from the 50s, a company run by engineers rather than corprate businessmen, how they produced it is a mystery to me, but they did and I want a slice of it for the cars 50th anniversary.

OK but keep the Porsche as well as the Jag which I doubt you’ll use for 5 or 6 months of the year.

It is of course entirely up to you what you do.

We can‘t stop growing older but we can, God willing, stay young in mind and do our best to make the most of every day. None of us knows what’s around the corner.

Tomorrow I’ll be enjoying a straight 6 345bhp BMW Z4M Coupe, a great looking car in the traditional GT shape but unfortunately I will have to give it back to my son.

Ahh, Roger, you are a lucky man having access to both, I wish. If finance dictated I could have a stable and the Porsche would stay. They are without doubt wonderful machines, I don’t have that luxury, I have always admired the early Jaguar XJ though, it’s history is as important as the Porsche, it is a wonderful machine. The purpose very different to the Boxster. It can be worked on by the DIY mechanic, it presents different challenges to run than the Boxster, parts are as expensive, it’s no cheaper to maintain, it is more thirsty for fuel, but it’s more practical, it has grace and pace. Good 40 + year old minters are rare, they are surging in price (deservedl) The V12’s give a refinement in line with a Royce but with a much sexier body and performance. Porsche and Jaguar are iconic brands and I love them both but I like the fact that with a car that is 40 + years old, nobody gives a flying f**k if it has a full dealer history. If it’s rot free, doesn’t leak oil and water, drives like it should then you will pass it on for what you paid or even more and let’s face it, it’s a legendary car and an important car that all subsequent luxury cars aspired to. Britain at its best ( even if the Browns Lane car plant where they were built was a complete. **** hole. 😄) When Ford bought Jaguar the management visited the production line and was aghast at the state of the place. The Ford guy said, “ The only worse car factory he had seen was in Gorky, Russia 😆

Graham,

Being a septagenarium I had to chuckle at the responses to your post - with which I heartily agree!! - and to your comments.

Just go for it - it's something you really want to do and I hope that you find your ideal car. Maybe the Jaguar Car Clubs can help you in your quest, the Jaguar Enthusiasts' Club in particular with which I have had a past association.

As another Golden (silver ) Oldie 73 I some time's get looks when I wrestle my way out the Spyder seats and people must say look at that old bloke driving a sports car ..age is only a number enjoy our cars .

It’s not an image thing for me with the Boxster, I have never cared what people think. A classic such as the Jag is for a car I can tinker with, the thrill of the chase to get that obscure bit of trim or new old stock part. They are still affordable. You can tinker with a Boxster to an extent but there are times that it must be plugged in to a computer. I just like the old analogue cars, even when young I had an XJC poster on my bedroom wall. So lots of nostalgia and a chance to own one. I love the Porsche brand, just fancy a different challenge.
