Power steering

I took my power steering rack off as my transfer pipes were corroded. Had new ones made up and fitted to rack. However, rack seems to be leaking now from one of the fixing points and I can’t understand why. However on taking the transfer pipes back off I found that the recessed holes seem to have a very small recessed page type washer at the bottom. I have attached some photos. Can anyone tell me, do these washers guide the fitting in place or do they create the seal. If the latter, where on earth would I be able to get some, thanks.

Hi David

Logic would dictate they help form a seal and as a rack from Porsche comes complete with pipes.

I would contact a steering rack repair company and ask them I'm sure they could advise on where you could get some.

Good lucl

Andy

I also think they create a seal and a protective barrier as the steel pipe shouldnt really sit on an aluminium rack or the two will react. They are extremely small and you wouldn’t really notice them unless you were investigating this leak. Have rang Porsche to see if they do spares but am still waiting a response. Hoping Richard will respond soon as he also may have some solution. If all else fails I’m thinking of making some felt washers but the manufacturers of these racks must carry the parts surely

Well another day passes and after promising twice to get back to me, still no response from Porsche. However, finding a power steering repair outlet in a nearby town led to me to forking out a couple of quid for two ptfe washers which looked identical. Mind you, this was only through persistence as I was being informed for at least 15 minutes that they weren’t aware of the washers and therefore may need to buy a replacement rack. Will fit back on car tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed.

Try having a word with Dave at RPM Knaresborough. I know they do their own kit so he may be able to advise

Thanks Derek will bear that in mind for the future. However, everything back on car and things are looking good.
