996 central locking stopped working - any advice?

I'm hoping somebody might be able to offer me some advice of possible causes and fixes for a problem I have with my central locking.

When I activate the locking on my 996 turbo both via remote or key, the locks will turn and then unlock again and beep. I understand this is normal when there is a reason why the car won't lock but normally in the past the car will lock when the process is repeated - now it won't lock irrespective of the number of times that press the remote or turn the key.

Has anybody experienced this problem themselves and/or have any suggestions of what the cause of the problem might be?

Thanks

Paul

Welcome Paul!!

The problem is caused by the microswitch in one of the door locks which senses if the door is open or closed. It has stuck, and is telling the alarm control unit that the door is open, so when you lock the car it will immediately unlock, and the alarm horn will double-beep to indicate a fault.

The snag is that it could be either door lock, and the only way to tell which one is by having a diagnostic check done.

As a temporary measure you can use the emergency locking procedure. Either turn the key in the door lock to the lock position and back 3 times in quick succession, or press the remote button 3 times.

Thanks Richard,

Your help is much appreciated - I can at least now lock my car until it is repaired.

check the centre console lock/switch as it is alarmed and if not shut properly can cause alarm/locking issues.
