Having had the car serviced at opc i asked the question if they had inspected the oil filter for any signs of imminent ims problems ie metal particles , the answer was a no now I thought being a opc this is something they would look at ! That to gether with a couple of other issues I’ve lost faith so the next service will be done at my local garage

You’re hitting the nail on the head here in my opinion... what’s the true value in an ‘OPC Service history’ when they don’t think look for these basics. Maybe the reason the cannot answer yes is that would be admitting to the known issues of IMS bearing and cyclinder wear issues?
I now think it’s less valuable to have OPC stamps than it is to have documented work with a specialist or even have private servicing and work performed with good proof/pictures and receipts.

You’ve hit the nail on the head , a major service is 390 inc vat which consists of a oil change , new filter and pollen filter , absolutely nothing a good home mechanic can do never mind a time served mechanic , what yet really paying for is a stamp in the book because mainly people have been brainwashed into thinking it has to be opc or specialist, never again ime going to have the oil done again now so the filter can be checked thought that was the idea , in fact when you speak to the service advisor about ims or bore score they don’t seem that clued up on it unless as you say they choose to ignore it !

Perhaps you should have asked for the filter and cut it up yourself!!

What you describe is a Minor Service, and at about £225-250 inc VAT from a good indy isn't bad value. I'm sure they don't get rich from service work, it is so competitive. Any half decent mechanic with typical overheads will be charging £60+ an hour.

I don't doubt you can DIY yourself and save money. There are many others that don't have the ability, tools, space, and/or enthusiasm. As an aside, my indy had a 996 in a couple of weeks ago for a service. Cutting open the filter revealed lots of metal shavings - typical of an intermediate shaft bearing cage failure. He explained this to the customer who completely ignored it and drove off.

250 sounds ok , I had been told the oil and filter is checked , after asking them they declared it’s not the norm to check , my feelings are a good specialist is a better bet for service / repair work rather than a opc

Fine a good independent, you can then build a relationship with them and they will care more about you and you CAR than 99% of OPCs. My personal experiance of them is they just want your money then highlight the most trivial of things to try and get even more out of you.
Just my 2p worth
Enjoy your cars all.
Andy

The only way is to change your own oil as an intermediate step. I fitted a magnetic sump plug after I rebuilt the engine so I can monitor it. I have carried out more work than any service would cover, but I still take it for annual check to get the stamp in the book.
