UPDATE 12 NOVEMBER - Dear North Coasters

Due to work commitments I will not be at Wednesday's club night, however all those who have signed up will have recieved an udate via email - if not please let me know and I will forward it to you (and try to work out where the tech failed!). Jacquie will be at club night and may be able to answer questions or bring them back for me to respond.

Dear North Coasters, I have emailed out the outline for the proposed 2019 NC500 (12-16 September) presented at our club night to the email addresses provided on Wednesday night. If you have not received the file Sunday evening or did not add your details to the list please email me at p.j.sayer@btinternet.com and I will send the presentation on.

Please email me your preferences for the first and second night stay and I will do some more searching for a variety of accommodation options.

Thank you to Philip & Jacquie for offering to sort out our 2019 WOTY (to new members that's Weekend of the Year, although in recent years it has become more of a Week of the Year); an excuse to get out and drive our Porsches and spend time with like-minded people.

As discussed Deb & I are in on this one, Philip, depending on dates.

We understand that some of our members can't always get so many days off work so we will try and arrange a shorter break too. We are always open to suggestions from members.

Am interested in the details - managed my own ”West/North/East Coast 1100“ in 4 days last November and know some of the routes very well.

When are you thinking of going?

i could wax lyrical about the fantastic roads and stunning scenery!

 
I spoke to someone recently about doing the nc500 so that's a yes from myself and Angela.

Would be date dependant because of holidays.

Could be interested in this depending on dates. At the moment, Kenny, Wendy and I are in the final stages of putting an eleven day European (Spa, Porsche Museum, Factory Tour, Munich and the mountain passes of Switzerland and to finish France and Nurbergring) tour together next year for the club. This will be in late June early July.

Taking a lot of planning just finalising the hotels.

 
Thanks for the responses, I will post some route details later this week. I was thinking weekends of 12 - 16 or 19 - 23 September (will need to miss any planned PCGB events) - best not to leave it too late in the year as the weather does get colder quicker up North!

I have attached the route I took this year and the hotels used (all were good and had sufficient parking. One change I would suggest on the route is not to stay on Skye and also take the short ferry ride from Armadale on Skye to Mallaig, the road from here to Fort William is stunning.

Note sure I am using the forum correctly so possible 2019 dates are September 12-16 or 19-23.

I have completed this twice previously both clockwise and anti-clockwise - my personal view is anti-clockwise is best so suggest we take that route. I have also generally "extended" the route to make the return journey more interesting via Fort William and Dunblane.

Hotels with suitable parking are few and far between and generally between £100-£130 per night for a couple, though there are B&B's at lower cost in all the main centres we would stop in. I have usually spent 5 days on the trip, days 1 & 5 travelling north and south and the remaining 3 days on the NC500 route, day 2 is usually around 250 miles on the east coast as the driving is easier, expect around 150 miles on day 3 & 4.

I can/will email route details, points of interest and potential hotel details to interested members - please reply to this post. Accommodation is in short supply on this route and I suggest we will need to commit numbers no later than December/January to avoid disappointment.

We did the '500' in April 2015 - superb driving and scenery - but don't rush it - we took 7 days !

Did the NC500 last September anti-clockwise on the motorbike, so good going again on the 16th September. 5 days is just right :-

Day 1 Teesside to a Grantown on Spey via Coldstream Glenshee Braemar and Tomotouin

Day 2 Grantown to Thurso via John O’Groats

Day 3 Thurso to Ullapool

Day 4 Ullapool to Grantown via Applecross and the Applecross pass

Day 5 Grantown to Teesside via Glenshee and Coldstream

Many roads Thurso to Applecross are single carriageway with passing places and so big BHP is not necessary the roads determine the speed and distance covered in a day.

Anticlockwise definitely the way to go.

 
HI, I was looking at booking a preplaned tour next May until Deb suggested it could be a future WOTY. I'm happy to be involved but like others will depend on the cost & dates.

 
Hi I'm very interested never been to the west coast of Scotland keep been told how lovely it is would like to be kept informed of dates so can get time off work

Having done some of these roads on a motorbike, they are stunning and are crying out for the rumble of flat sixes!
