Wing mirror

My wing mirror fell out and I assumed that one of the mounting had snapped off, after all this time. I had a look on Fleabay and looking at the pic of the back, the one for sale didn't seem in as good condition as mine, in that mine isn't broken at all.

I am guessing that, after all these years, it just worked itself loose.

So I need to try to refit it and watched a couple of videos on YouTube how to do it, which weren't very clear, with the sound off.

What I think I need to do is to turn the bevel slightly so that I can see the four pins, push the mirror in the aperture (yes I have already reconnected the wires) and poke a screwdriver through a hole in the bottom of the mirror to turned the notches round and lock the mirror in place. Does that sound right?

btw, I found pushing the mirror back as far as it would go at the top, gently does it, gave much easier access to the little wheel at the bottom, in so far as you can actually see what you are doing, rather than poking a screwdriver through the hole in the bottom of the mirror and hoping for the best. [&:]
 
The nearside mirror did the same thing whilst bowling along the Autoroute at 130kmph!

I stopped at the next services, the wire connectors holding it in so I didn't lose the mirror. Being an expert on fixing mirrors now, [8|], all I needed was something long & pointy to reattach it with.

This turned out to be the ignition key, by pushing the mirror back in its housing as far as it will go, you can access the little wheel quite easily and flick it over to lock the mirror in place.
