Yet more door glass problems !!

Hi guys, had problems with the drivers door window glass for a while now, where the plastic wheel runner would pop off the bottom of the glass channel, i thought i had cured this problem when i bought some expensive replacement wheels from the U.S.A, i fitted these & all was well for a while until last week when i noticed the glass had dropped again, i soon popped the wheel back on & greased the channel & the wheel, only for it to pop off again a few days later, it seems to be the same wheel each time, so i decided a different approach was needed, so i swapped the lifting scissors for another set i had, swapped the new wheels to this scissor & fitted the offending wheel to face the inside of the car, my theory being that if it was slightly worn it would be held in place by the slight pressure on that wheel, all was ok for a day, but tonight its popped off again !!, ive now come to the conclusion that the window felt swells slightly when wet, this combined with the sub zero temperature means the glass tends to be quite tight in the channels & i guess something has to give, does anyone else have this problem ? if so does anyone have a cure ? apart from the obvious " dont lower the window in winter" chestnut LOL !! cheers, Tony

I would not have thought it was a problem in the cold weather as the cars will have been tested in all sorts of weather conditions when being developed and it is not one that i have heard of before, i would source another set of complete "scissors" secondhand and give that a go, at least you will now be a 5 star subject matter expert on 944 window system [:D]

Electric windows are your problem, I'll have a set of manual mechs and 924 winders going spare shortly ;)

If you have tried 2 different regulators then logic would suggest that something else is wrong! assuming regulators were in good condition

Which wheel comes off?

I would check

1. has the channel moved on the glass causing the wheel to come off the glass at extended travel,
2. is the small lower channel on the correct way around if not this could put extra twist into the arms
3. put a piece of tape on the glass close to the B post seal watch it as you operate the window does it stay the same distance from the seal? are there any sudden changes in the glass path?

I would say that the hoizontal channel into which the glass sits is not in quite the right place. It needs shifting slightly left or right along the glass. If set up right, it should not slip off the regulator.

so sorry for the late reply guys & thanks all for posting, ok long & short of the problem ( which is now fixed ) was originally the channel on the bottom of the glass had shifted allowing the wheel to run right off the end of the channel, but before this was diagnosed i had ordered the new set of white aftermarket replacement wheels from the U.S.A, i fitted a new glass in the door, so that cured that problem, now the new wheels to fit, i thought this was a good idea at the time as i had paid for them & thought it would be silly not to use them, this is where the problems started again so it seems, as it looks like these new wheels are not up to the job, they keep popping off the scissor arms, once i had witnessed this several times i dug the original wheels out ( it always pays to keep parts no matter how worn you might think they are ! ) & i fitted these in place of the new wheels.... job done, up & down loads of times without a problem at all, so by curing one problem i introduced another DOH !! live & learn i guess >> & as Frenchy said up there i am a master now at anything to do with door glass & motors LOL !!, Jinxy
