Wiring for a dim spark

Evening All,

I’m looking for some assistance and/or advice on matters electrical

I’ve owned my 996 for about a month now and after a series of long drives it was clear I needed to address the music situation. A previous owner had either enthusiastically installed an after market head unit themselves or had been royally screwed over by someone who did it for them. Similarly, they’d "upgraded” the dashboard speakers ruining the surrounds in the process. And whilst there, decided that the wiring needed to be changed with what looks like very cheap home audio speaker wire seemingly removing all factory wires and leaving this behind the pioneer unit (see picture). Furthermore, the door woofers are silent, the fuse is fine and I have no idea how to check the functionality of the amp

So i’m looking for some help, please. I’d like to restore the OEM wiring, if possible, and get the door speakers singing but fear it’s beyond my (very) limited abilities. If anyone knows of an auto-electrician or has any ideas how I might tackle this myself, I’m all ears!

cheers,
Tom

Hi Tom,
I’m afraid that I am not too useful with the spanner’s and screwdrivers, but think that it might be worth reposting your query on the 996 section of the forum.
Good luck and best wishes,
Martin

Was your car originally fitted with Bose system? If so the aftermarket head unit was probably not compatible with the Bose amp and an attempt has been made to bypass it and wire direct to speakers. The Bose speakers, especially sub woofers are very low impedance hence the need to swap them out as well. I believe there are active adapters available to enable the Bose system to work with another type of head unit but that's probably too late now. Best go to an audio specialist and get the installation sorted for you. Best take a bullet to bite on with you.

Thanks Geoff

it wasn’t optioned with Bose but I think they’ve done as you say nevertheless and wired direct to the speakers. It’s a bit of a horror story under the dash from my cursory look

I’ll hit google to look for a specialist but if anyone in the region has any recommendations, they’d be greatly appreciated

cheers
Tom
