Winter Tyres

I have two sets for my estate car - one with summer tyres and one with winter. However, according to this http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/Summer-VS-Winter-tyres-Warm-weather-performance.htm there is only a small benefit of putting summer tyres on when (and if!) it warms up. On the other hand the 10% difference between the two could be significant....[&:]
 
Winter tyres compounds are softer as they obviously need to work better in cooler conditions. Accordingly, the wear rate will be higher as ambient temperature rises. Regards, Clive.
 
No not on the RS, but on the Mondeo, had them fitted back in October, 1st time ever, and been really good throughout the winter, especially as its auto.

The fronts had worn down to about 4mm about 1 month ago so swapped onto the rears, which had only worn 1mm in 14k, as it has now warmed up a bit, whats the issue with leaving them on, as i dont have a spare set of wheels?

Can i assume the rubber is softer and will wear out quicker or will they start to breakdown if they get hot (if summer ever arrives)

I am sure there will be someone on here with some knowledge / advise

also on a side note when it took the RS in for service at End of Feb, they lent me a new boxster S, which was fitted with winter tyres and a speed warning! I wonder if the OPC will change the tyres?
 
We have a friendly local tyre dealer who collects whichever set from the shed at home, collects each car in turn from my wife's business and swaps the tyres for £40 per car per change. It means the winter tyres last longer and we have a quieter drive until the cold weather comes.
 
Iam advised that onece the temperature is above 11 degree they will wear quicker and perform better than summer tyres below 7 degree. Depends how many miles you do in the mondeo i surpose as to whether tyre wear siginficant as presume you do not drive it particuarly hard!! I just changed Impreza wheels back to summer last weekend and doing X5 this. Easy with impreza as long term car with 2 sets of wheels though. Porsche bak in use now salt (hopefully) gone.

You havn't seen him drive!![:)] Put the summer tyres back on Andy unless you are considering selling the Mondy soon and therefore will not get the benifit of the outlay.
