Winter tyres and TPMS issues

Help!

I have a '20 plate 992.1 and have just swapped over the wheels to a set of Porsche wheels (19s and 20s) with N rated Continental winters which I bought from a bloke in Scotland. However, the car steadfastly refuses to see them so the TPMS warning light is on. I have reset the system on a number of occasions and also inflated and then deflated the tyres as advised by Ray at Northway, who sold me the car. One sensor has been replaced with an aftermarket (Autel) sensor after I took it to a tyre place checked them with their reader and said they were all dead, but the car doesn't see it. I am half-tempted to buy a set of Porsche sensors and get them fitted, as I suspect the dealer will charge me a small fortune to diagnose and fix this issue. KwikFit told me you can't use aftermarket sensors and need original parts.

Any advice gratefully accepted. I can see other threads mentioning similar problems but without a clear solution.

I had a similar problem with a spare set of GT4 wheels and found sales@alloywheelsdirect.com so if you send them your VIN they send ready coded sensors which were recognised. Delivered from Germany it’ll take a couple of weeks at this time of year. Mine cost £199 for four delivered 18 months ago.

Your Porsche 992.1 isn’t recognising the winter wheels because the TPMS sensors fitted are either aftermarket or not correctly programmed. The most reliable resolution is to fit OEM Porsche TPMS sensors (433 MHz) and perform a reset via the PCM. Aftermarket sensors often fail to sync, while genuine Porsche sensors are pre-programmed to be recognised automatically.

Many owners report that Autel or other non-OEM sensors don’t get picked up by the Porsche system, even after resets. The PCM reset procedure often doesn’t work if the sensors aren’t Porsche-coded. Owners frequently end up at the dealer to reprogramme or replace sensors.

Thanks for this, Clive.

I was considering getting these from 911 Direct and getting them fitted by a helpful tyre centre. Do you think that would fix it?

What I didn’t say in my post above was that the problem I had was that the ones I got from Design911 did not work and failed to be recognised by the car. They refunded me on returning the sensors. My local Indy had also had trouble with those sourced by D911. Maybe they got a bad batch.
