wing mirrors

does anyone have any advice how to take apart the electric wing mirrors from a 1982 SC Targa> I can take the thing off by untightening an allen key bolt accessed from the top, but that 's all
I have 2 problems with the drivers mirror, firstly the interior lever control has no effect on altering the positioning of the glass itself (works fine for the passenger side) but now the whole thing wobbles around, as though a locking nut has come loose

I am guessing the rubber front trim peels off but its seems a bit hard and I don't want to damage the thing due to ignorance
Haynes manual is no use, is the Bently manual much better, at £80 from Gmund its a bit of an investment ?

Buy the Bentley on UK Amazon Jonathan, £70 with free postage, money well spent. Forget Haynes on the 911, absolutely no comparison.

Jonathan which type of mirror is it flag or teardrop if it is teardrop behind the glass is a large plastic ring nut gently push the glass as far in as possible on one side and then turn the ring nut with a screwdriver and the glass will come out if it is flag type Iam not sure how these hold together. Baz

its the rectangulat type, but I'll have a look and see if the same advice works for this type

This thread should help. Once the mirror glas is off there are three screws or bolts that hold the rubber rimmed motor in place.

Johnathan if the Bentley doesn't help it is most likely a dirty , corroded or broken contact that is causing your mirror problem . It could be the relay too. Basically it is a question of checking the circuit with a meter or bulb type tester or replacing parts (more expensive) check the fuse box too although from memory the left and right mirror controls are on the same fuse which should tell you something if that is the case.
