Windscreen washer bottle filler pipe possibly detached

I have a warning come up every time the car is started stating that the washer fluid is low. If I pour water into the filler, it pours straight out onto the drive. I suspect that the filler pipe and washer bottle are no longer connected. I have looked at the relevant parts catalogue diagram and am wondering if either the grommet has perished or been pushed into the washer bottle.

Is this likely to be something I can rectify from inside the luggage compartment alone (I have slim fingers) or is it more likely to need wheel and wheel arch liner off for full access to the reservoir?

Car is a 2002 996.2 C2 with Bi Xenon headlights so has the headlight washer system and higher capacity washer bottle/reservoir.

Looks to me like you have to tackle it from the wheel arch. This says you can pull out the filler neck after removing the wheel arch liner.

Richard, thanks for sight of this, very helpful over the parts list diagram! Looks like I need to spend some time on the driveway when it's not raining. Sadly I don't have enough room in the garage for the car and working on it.
