Windscreen Replacement

First road trip in the 987.2 yesterday and something hit the edge of the screen and I now have 100mm crack in the outer laminate. Friday 13th! Is replacement a straight forward job at Autoglass or is the connection of the antenna to the PCM a PCM out job? Anyone know? Also my screen has the optional grey top tint which was specified from new … Just wondering if they’ll get everything right or if I’d be better off checking it into the OPC(?)

Just a windscreen replacement. Make sure they reconnect the GPS sensor - I was showing endlessly on the Chichester bypass until my OPC reconnected it.

Autoglass has done several for me over the last few years and all have been fine.

Hi Michael,

Some members on here have organised the windscreen replacement through their Porsche dealer who provided the [official] screen but there may have been additional cost implications, so it would be worth speaking to your insurer.

Whatever, I believe that Pilkington screens are the ones to go for rather than the “Chinese” replacements used by some companies.

Hi Michael

I agree with Jeff.

You should be able to get an OEM screen from insurance. They always try to get you to use autoglass or their preferred installer. This is to save them money.

Nearly all National installers are fitting non OEM screens and most people don’t question this.

In my experience the OEM screens are superior in crack and chip resistance as well as having the correct masking/edge treatment and other technical features for cameras/rain sensors etc.

Insist on a like for like replacement ie OEM not inferior copy
