Wind noise behind dash?

Evening gents,

I wonder if one of you chaps could kindly shed some light on this for me please.

I took my new 86 944 Turbo on a good 200 mile run today and noticed something. At speeds of 35 mph plus there is a loud sound which is like wind noise coming from behind the dash of around the bottom of the windscreen.

My passenger couldn't feel any draft coming in around the windscreen whatsoever, so I can only assume this is coming from the engine bay/bulkhead area. Perhaps a seal has broken down or is missing?

Has anyone experienced this previously? It ruins an otherwise pretty silent cabin.

Thanks in advance.

Oliver

Hi Oliver

This may not be relevant, but I did work on a car with a difficult to find wind related noise a few years ago. It turned out it was caused by a replacement windscreen being fitted, and the fitter didn't manage to seal the screen properly. The polyeurythane screen sealant is difficult to see due to trims etc It may be worth checking the outside edge of the screen with a torch & mirror to see if any small breaks are visible in the sealant between the glass & the body.

A friend had a similar issue and it was also caused by improper fitting of a replacement windshield.

I had this on my beemer after I had a replacement windscreen. It took a few months to appear, it started as a feint whistle - I thought I was going mad, then it turned in to a loud whistle at motorway speeds. Autoglass came out and re-fitted the windscreen under warranty and it solved the problem
