Will These Fit?

944 man

16" Boxster 986 wheels, 6" fronts with 205/55/16 and 7" rears with 225/50/16 tyres, onto a 220 Turbo? Id always presumed that they bolted straight on, but Im concerned now that I will need slender spacers in order to clear the brake calipers (smallest Brembos).

Not sure but these wheels are much narrower than stock wheels for the 944. My S2 has 7" fronts and 8" rears (sb same as a 220 turbo) with the optional wheels being 7.5" front and 9" rears - all 16" diameter of course. So - not sure why you would want narrower wheels....

Not sure about the spacers - need thereof, but I know my 2.7 felt very odd on 924 Turbo wheels - 6" rim but only 15" dia - all round. I put it down to the large sidewall, 16's should be a lot better.

I believe you need 3mm shims at a minimum so that the inside of the spoke doesn't catch the calliper. I'll l let you know hopefully tomorrow when my winter tyres finally arrive and I can get them fitted

Thank you Paul. Is that one 3mm shim for each wheel in each position, or specifically for a 6" only or a 6" wheel only on the front? Where would you suggest buying them from? I do have some spacers but even the thinnest would still be barely secure on standard threads. Simon

I believe it is just one 3mm shim for each front wheel, the rears are fine, but I'll confirm tomorrow when I fit mine. Luckily the seller of my wheels gave me the 3mm shims from his S2 but shopping around I found the cheapest stockist was unfortunately Pork Chop at £22.13 inc vat for 3mm. The other stockists all seem to be around £10 more

Just fitted them Simon. It turns out that the 3mm spacer is to allow clearance for the wheel bearing cover in the centre of the hub. The clearance to the calliper would be tight but fine without the spacer. These are 6" front wheels with a 50 offset on a 1990 S2 BTW there is a guy selling 5mm shims for £20 in the For Sale section

Thanks Paul. WIll 5mm work with standard length studs? In the Summer Id sit in the sun and carefully measure and count the threads, but in this weather Im taking an easier route... [:D] Also, is it possible to fit the front wheels with the centre caps removed?

Several people on the other shim thread have said 7mm will work, including Matthew at Type911 but I personaly don't know. If you prise the caps off the hub then I am sure the wheels will fit on, but then you are leaving your wheel bearings open to all sorts of crud [:'(] The ride is much more compliant now that I am back on 16" wheels with skinny tyres, I wonder if I will start moaning about harshness when I put the 17's back on in March :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: Actually I am hoping the trackday at Bedford on March 25th is only 1-2 degrees and very wet, then I might just keep the winters on [;)]

Was happy with mine (and had no adverse affects in around 8k miles) that was 5mm shims. You obviously have 5mm less thread overall, Tony edited to add - Its the hub bearing caps and mountings that cause the issue, I think you could probably machine the wheels to clear, but spacers are easier! Also have run them with sticky (road legal) track tyres as well with no issues (only 205s though)
