Why can't I send PM's?

New member
Hi one for Paul I guess?

Over the last week I've tried to send PM's a few times and when I click to send the PM I get the message that I'll posted below, then get logged out of the forum and have to log back in again.

Any ideas?

Regards
Andy

We are sorry...

You are seeing this message because of one of the following reasons:

You tried to post information from another domain.
Personal firewall installed on your computer explicitly erased "http_referer" information.
Problem #1:

Forum admin enabled domain checking to prevent any unauthorized access from other domains. Please use http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/ to access our forum. You may click here to try again.

Problem #2:

Your personal firewall software may explicitly erased "http_referer" information from your browser. This small piece of information is used for security reasons only and we do not store this information on our web server, our database server, nor your browser (as cookies).

You will be able to view the content on our forums but you will not be able to post messages without "http_referer". The following personal firewall applications are known to cause this problem:

Norton Internet Security 2002:

Options
Personal Firewall
Advanced Options
Browsing Privacy
Click on the Permit tab from the drop down box on the Browser (User Agent)
Zone Alarm Pro Edition (under Privacy Sections):

Mobile Code Control > Off
Ad blocking > Off
Cookie Control > Off
It is also possible to set our forum's URL as a trusted site on some firewall software so that the software's settings will not conflict with our forums. For more information on firewall configuration, please consult the manual accompanied with the firewall software for detailed configuration instructions.

You should look for the following specific sections in the firewall's help file should you need to tweak your firewall settings:

Ad-blocking, as we use pop-up windows for various page functionalities. You should set the block level to "low" or turn it off completely while browsing our forums. Some firewall software can't differentiate an Ad from legitimate page functionalities.
User Agent settings, as we need to identify whether you are accessing our forums from the designated URL (specified by forum admin). In our case, the designated URL would be: http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/
Script-blocking, as we use JavaScript for various page functionalities. Our JavaScript codes are available for viewing in case you are unsure of the safety issues involved.
Trusted Site/Zone, as you can set our forum's URL as a trusted URL in your firewall to prevent all the problems without having to switch off the above features in your firewall.

Following suggestion of no technical use unfortunately but perhaps it is a subtle sign that you should not be considering selling the turbo anymore [:D]

LOL thanks Craig! Sadly I've done a deal, pending fitting new front tyres tomorrow to prove that it sorts a slight wheel/tyre imbalance issue at 65mph then I think it will be gone at the weekend. Sad times [:(]

Hi Andy

I've had a look at your user details and there's nothing on there, as far as I can see, that would prevent you sending PMs. As Simon siad it could just be a glitch but, as I'm rather new to this admin lark, maybe Paul knows something about it that I don't! I will bring it to his attention in case he doesn't see this thread.

Thanks for checking, not sure what is going on but it's a problem all of the time, not just now and again

Hi Andy,

I don't know if there is a specific PM problem, we've only had one report of an issue recently out of c. 15000 users, although I know that most people don't bother reporting problems!

This forum platform is very outdated, and the hosts aren't hugely helpful when it comes to fixing things. We have a new website/IT project nearing completion, and the forums will be replaced/renewed as part of that. More news after the November conference, but it is a very high priority.

I've never really got the PM system. You have the option to PM someone, where it goes to an inbox they probaly don't read, or it's full: how often do we get posts like "Elliot, your inbox is full"? [&:]

Why not click the "email" instead? It goes straight through, and there is no limit on the number of messages. I'd like to remove the PM option form the new forums, it makes no sense if you have a direct link to an email address.

Thanks Paul and a good point. I'm so used to clicking 'PM' on all car forums I frequent I never think to click on the email option!

Looking forward to the new site rolling out too [8D]
