Who's going?

I do think its a shame that most of the events are always in the "Cotswold Triangle". Think it would really freshen things up if National events were held in other parts of the UK (from time to time at least). I think the lack of suggestions as to what to do at this years event shows that there is a limit at what can be done at them thats different. What can be done is hold them in different places thus wmaking the events feel fresher as well as allowing others get to them who are unable to trek all the way down to the Cotswolds every time.

There have been plenty of events in other parts of the country, and all that happens is people don't go. Witness the trackday calendar and the way the far-flung days often get cancelled through lack of bookings. Silverstone is pretty central to where the bulk of members live, and although the Cotswolds seems a bit in the middle of nowhere, it's actually very well placed for the M5/M4/M40, getting you there from most parts of the country. The Midlands is the obvious choice, and the Cotswolds have lovely venues and driving roads that are better than you'll find in Birmingham. [:D][:D]

I totally agree about fresh venues and ideas, but again a lot of it is down to the personal relationships people have with venues. The price some venues ask is shockingly out of the question, and if you look at the deal we've got with the RAC, or had with Blenheim for example, it does explain why those venues are chosen.

Just checking there is entry at the door on Sunday at the RAC. Can't do Saturday and am not currently a member but may be open to persuasion!

Hi all,

As I'm going to Silverstone on the Saturday, there doesn't seem to be anyone at the RAC that day, there won't be anyone to welcome you or park cars etc. If you are planning to spend the day there, I apologise for the lack of Register presence but first-come means you have accepted the role of Register Representative for the day. [:D]

Seriously, if anyone is there feel free to pick up any lost 944 owners and show them where to park, make sure they've got a programme etc.

All true - the Cotswolds are indeed lovely and central- I just feel that I have seen most of it many many times over during the last few years. Glad to hear that Frontrunners is to be a bit different this year. [:)] I do appreciate the issues about alternate venues - but having the National Event in an alternate part of the land would be a very healthy thing for the Club to pursue. Anyhow, dont want to turn this into a moaning thread - am really looking forward to the 50th weekend and hopefully all locations will see an excellent turnout of 944's.

Hi Mark, it's a pity your not going to make it down. I have had it marked in my diary since the start of the year and am looking forward to it. You are right about the distance, I am travelling over 400 miles each way plus driving between venues so am making a weekend of it, one night in a premier inn and two camping. I will be attending with my 11 year old son who will unfortunately be missing school on friday. Hopefully he'll sleep on way home after a tiring weekend and be fine for school monday, not so sure about me though as driving all the way home on sunday evening, hopefully in convoy.

Alan.

The problem is my son is 7 and just not interested and although Carol co-runs the Region she will have seen quite a lot of Porsches in a field by then. I will be up to R3's event the following weekend and I don't want to do it my own.

I think there is also a cost issue, it would cost £100 in petrol, plus accomodation etc and these things soon start to add up.

I also think it would be nice to see this things move around a bit.

I am going to give the car a final checkover today in readyness for tomorrow night... I cant wait to get away !

Unfortunately my Miami Vice gear went to the bin.... ! [:'(] But I am bringing the 88 NEC mobile just to see the look on peoples faces !

Mike you will have to give me a bit of photography advice over a few beers of course [;)]

Packing not that advanced here, still decorating daughters room!
Looking forward to a few (very few - well out of practice!) beers with you too, camera is usually around!

Car checked, just needs Fuel, tent packed, just need to pack clothes etc. and hoping to head of at 5pm tomorrow.

See you there, if your going.

Alan.

Looks like I may be there with my 4YO daughter but not my wife (she's ill) - could be interesting! hope I get to see some of you and don't spend all of my time trying to keep my daughter entertained. She did well with her first wheel change today and was trying to polish everything so we might be OK!
Tony
