Who was at Brooklands on Saturday

First time I had ever seen another 912 in the flesh!
Whos was it, no one was around so didn' t get the change to say hi...

Was yours the one that backfired when you started it, nearly blowing the head off the chap in the wheelchair who was sat behind you?
If so then your dog (sat in the back) was totally unfazed - is it deaf?

Nope, mine was the burgundy one parked along the fence backing onto the catering fair.(I don' t think I own a dog)
I' ll try and post up some pictures when I get home this afternoon.

I was there. Arrived at 11-ish and left about 3.30pm.
I was parked at the side of main building, since the area at the front was almost full when I arrived.
Since it was away from the others, there were several people taking pictures.

I saw bullet_uk (Alex) car parked by the fence and wandered over to look, but the people standing around it didn' t own it.

Said hi to the people by the gazebo. Spoke to a couple of guys that owned Boxsters and a guy that had a C4S in silver.

No-one I spoke to seemed to be using the forum, so I didn' t know any of them.

Didn' t have a camera, but there were a couple of mk1 GT3' s, with someone who was advocating joining the register to several people. I don' t believe it was Gary Bullen.
There was a current GT3, with the new rear wing.
There was a fair collection of 911, 964, 993 and 996s.
There was a couple of 928s, although one had some unusually wide wheels on it.

There were a couple of what I think were 550 Spyder replicas.

They opened the test hill at around 2pm I think. I was wandering around one of the hangars at the time. By the time I got there, I saw a 944 and 996 cabrio go up it a couple of times, then they shut the hill again. I considered giving it a go, but took too long to make up my mind - in any case there were a lot of large stones waiting to batter the wheel arches.

Aside from having a parking area the the front of the main building and the club gazebo, there were no special arrangements. I seemed to interest the other visitors though, who had a collection of nice cars to look at in addition to the normal museum exhibits.

Stuart,

I saw you leave. (Yet again I see a CAR I recognise, but miss the driver!)

The 996 Cab is owned by the brother of a long-time friend. The first time I had met him though in about 20 years! The friend is a Ferrari nut, his brother has (mostly) driven 911' s all this time.

I know one of the old-style GT3 drivers - he comes to the Surrey region, and the New style GT3 owner is a Surrey member that we know.

Will you be going to Surrey tonight? Or is Hampshire nearer to you?

Yup it was my 912 that backfired as I started her up. The poor chap in the wheel chair was not too happy, he was sure I did it on purpose, but I didn' t.

The labrador, Lucy, loved it in the back of the 12

bullett_uk: I did see you arrive, but by the time I got over to your car you had disappeared. Are you going the the Ace Cafe tonight?

The dog certainly looked happy!

It' s a pity we keep going to these events and then not meeting other forum members. If only there was a way of recognising each other...[&:]

No mention of all the 944' s then?!?[:)]

Good to see so many cars, though a bit shy of the 100 to 150 I' d seen mentioned somewhere.

It struck me as a bit of a missed opportunity. Perhaps PCGB could make moves to champion next years event?

I thought it was a rather poor show for £7 as well. There were more cars at the Hants & Wilts regional concours on Suday.

Yeah I am going tonight.
I turned up just as a few cars made hill runs stood and watched that had a wander round the museum looked at the cars and called it a day. I would have estimated 50-60 max.

Stuart was that you parked behind the black 911? I saw someone with a tripod taking loads of pictures of both cars.

Got some good pictures though of a row of cars the v.nice red speedster the 550' s and a few other bits and bobs (new digi cam so went a bit bonkers!)

For completeness:

There were some 944s as well. Some turbo (probably with boooost enhancers?) and some not.
There were some 986' s as well, pre and post facelift/engine upgrade.

I was parked behind the black 911. There was a guy witha tripod taking piccies. I left him to it, he seemed quite happy.

" Saw me leave" ? or heard me leave. The sports exhaust sounds better than the standard one - that was the main reason for considering the run up the hill, full power should be quite loud.

Went to Hants region 2 months ago, missed last months (since I lost my car keys and spent 4 hours b*ggering around trying to find them). I am in the middle of three regions, so none are that convenient.

In terms of additional miles above my normal commute, Surrey and Bershire are about the same (40 additional miles round trip). Hampshire is 60- miles, but Hampshire would be closer if I had the day off and was travelling from home.

I' ll come to the Surrey one tonight. Is there any food to be had? In which case I' ll get there 6.30ish and have something to eat. (Hope the sat nav has the address in it, so I don' t have to hunt around[:)])

Nick,

Tickets were available for £6 in advance, advertised on this forum for at least a month. Still to much, come as my guest next year, I' ll take you up to the Bar and lounge and you can spend a penny in Barns Wallace' bathroom[:)], I' ll even give you the penny.[;)]

Which bit was poor[], The Railton, James Hunts Mclaren, The Wellington, Hurricane, Bentley, Lagondas, Test Hill, banking, members bridge, clubhouse, stratosphere chamber, the list goes on.

True there weren' t a lot of Porsches, but AFN is just up the road if that' s what you wanted.[:)]

But in all seriousness, Brooklands is unique place. The first purpose built race track in the world. 3 miles of banked concete track built in 9 months out of the personal fortune of one man when there was only 40 miles of hard surfaced road in the country.

A large part of the work at Brooklands is done by volunteers, quite oftem people who used to work there.

I would agree that it could have been better publicised but it' s thier first year at trying something like this and they will have my full support next year to make it really special.

Anyway, I' ve come down from my soapbox now[:)]

See you next year?

Yes Stuart food is there, though it may be " sit down" only.

Easy to find, The Fairmile Inn, just north of Cobham, south of Esher on the A307.

See uuuu there

Food is available from the Bar (there must be a resturant as well!)

The Fairmile is in my Sat Nav, but it is a PDA based one not the Porsche one!
If you can' t find it in " hotels" try " Golf Clubs"

See you there - I hope...

I knew you' d bite at that John[:D], what about the piccies.

Robbie

I have been to Brooklands many times, and yes it is a fanatstic place with an excellent museum which oozes history. I was just dissapointed by the Porsche turn out and lack of trade stands, which I always enjoy browsing.

I will be at the Ace tonight so will miss out on the Surrey meet.

I take your point Nick, I' m a regular there (sad?), I know from this that they are having trouble attracting visitors because of thier closeness to London and free entry into the Traditional " free" museums.

As your post said " not many cars" as opposed to " not many Porsches" I just wanted to make the point that there is lots to do and see there and that it is a unique place.

I' d like to go to the Ace too but am committed to Surrey tonight.

Regards
