For the impending road trip across Europe, and the possibility of rain swamped badly drained Auotroutes and Euro Bill taking a dim view of triple 888, what are the preffered tyres, use to be S02 Bridgestone last time I got a set, but things seemed to have moved on since 5 years back ...... Thanx

As someone who does...[
] I recently bought tyres for my 18" wheels. It came down to a choice between Continental Conti Sport 2s and Michelin Pilot Sport 2s - both in Porsche N2. After doing a LOT of research and reading of reviews I went for the Contis as a perfect balance of wet and dry grip and a competitive price compared to the more expensive Michs with not much gain in combined performance and durability. I think fronts and back came to around £660.00 fitted.

I just put Conti Sport 2's on the 993 for the wet weather performance I've had from the same tyre before. I love them for high speed motorway cruising and would always spec them if possible for regular road cars. But I don't really consider them a sport tyre as such... for my normal cars, I don't tend to test the limits in the dry on the public road and they aren't going to be tracked, so it's a case of what is going to go wrong (aquaplaning, bit of snow... this is Switzerland after all) and select the tyre that's best going to keep me out of trouble in those cases.
Put Pirelli P Zero's on the RS 3.8 at the same time though (BAD week for the wallet)... I like the way they break away progressively and I'm not going to be doing vast motorway distances in the wet.... was a flip between them and the (more expensive) new Michelin Pilot Sports. I do love a Michelin race tyre but as I said, I love the progressiveness of the Pirellis for a bit of hooliganism.
The 924 rally rep is on Toyo R888's though and whilst they are mega sticky, I really wasn't a huge fan of them in the wet.
All IMHO of course
Cheers

I will be keeping my worn 888 for my onslaught later in the year ..... [

Do they attract a constant road noise?
though i don't have personal experience of the R1R or T1R i would think they would be quite a good choice. From personal experience I am not keen on the conti's and prefer the P zero's. But the conti's likely better in the wet.
Decided to go for Toyo R1 R where is the best place to buy and have them SE London Kent/Essex please ....
Sorry Des can't help with where to buy. Think when i bought my 888's I used a website that dealt with toyo direct and then had them fitted locally. Don't have info to hand.

For road tyres what's the best size to go for front and rear?
In the handbook Porsche quote 205/50 ZR17 front and 255/40 ZR17 rear.
But I currently have 225/45 ZR17 front and 245/40 ZR17 rear (Dunlop Super Sport Race)with around a 20mm spacer on the rear.
I'm looking for a road biased tyre should I revert to what the manufacturer states and if so will a slightly wider rear be ok with the spacer still in place?
Cheers,
Jon

I've used the T1-R also. and I did found this one not as good as the R1-R
the road holding on the R1-R is a lot better. My guess it is due to stiffer flanks
the T1-R is to soft and not that good in the wet.
I now use them on my Volvo estate
the R1R does not make a lot of noise when driving. so on noise, not comaprable with the 888

205/50 ZR 17 and 255/40 ZR 17 (Porsche standard) perfect for road use, no spacer.

Folks, just to update this, just ordered a set of boots R888s from the above. 611 all in, which I thought was pretty good, will cost 40quid to have fitted and balanced locally as well, but I think thats still good value.ORIGINAL: Jamie Summers

How did you manage that? They're listed at £159 for the fronts and £183 for the rear. Which totals up as £684 plus delivery. Tell us your secret [
