Wheel stud length - Fuchs

MZ racer

New member
I have just aquired a set of 16" Fuchs (7" and 8") when the rear wheels are fitted to the car (1984 944 lux) the wheel nuts bottom out on the studs, the studs seem too long and this causes the end of the nut to break out. see attachment

This is only happening on the rear wheels, should I have spacers on the wheel hub?

Any clues as to what the problem maybe.

Thanks Barrie

As Mike says, they need the OEM spacers. Porsche widended the track for the early 944 very cheaply, by fitting longer studs and spacers.

Your spacers will have corroded and 'welded' themselves onto the seating face of the original wheels. Re-fit them and all will be well.

Thanks chaps

I do not have the spacers, will get some off of the bay, along with some fresh nuts.

'Porsche spacers' always sell for silly money on eBay, even these relatively worthless old OEM parts. Id suggest trying someone breaking one first, and a 'breaker' second (and if you have to; go to someone like Paul Higginson, wholl sell them for a few pounds delivered).

Im sure that someone will be along soon pimping their parts; so Id say dont pay more than a fiver tops plus a couple of pounds postage. Five pounds all-in would be better - theyre worthless parts with virtually no other use.

Seems your car does not want the Fuch fitted......................so sell them to me [:D]
I recently recieved some 17 mm OEM spacers from Alasdair starts with a 951 part number.
Eibach and Jasmine Motorsport sell good kit.

Not much chance of me selling you the wheels, I had to buy a whole car in the end to get some good shape Fuchs.

I now have to sell the car!! not going too bad on the bay.

My 944 came with Fuchs and does indeed have the spacer on the back wheels. I also use them for my teledials which still seem to sit way too far inside the rear arches, for my liking at least.
