Wheel Offsets

It wont work George. The 951 Fuchs differed from most other 7" x 16" (but actually not all) by having more backsapce, in order to accomodate the brake calipers. You could mix these wheels with 86MY wishbones, hubs and calipers and M030 dampers, but theres no room for radially mounted calipers and ABS is a non-starter too, sorry.

Nit-picking slightly, the late TurboD90 wheels are 7.5" front and 9" rear, not 8" and 9". However, if you prefer slightly narrower wheels and tyres on a late Turbo, as I do for overall road use, just bung a set of S2 wheels on: i.e. 7" and 8" D90s, late offset, using 205/55 16 front tyres and 225/50 16 rears. That's what I am running on mine for everyday wear, and it's lovely. S2 wheels look pretty standard on the car, and enable it to be a bit more light-footed and delicate. I have about 300 bhp and a limited slip diff in good working order and have always felt the car has excellent traction. In deference to the drive shafts and UJs I don't habitually use full everything in bottom gear but can use full waft in second in even quite poor weather. Another advantage of S2 sizes is that there's a wide choice of available tyres in the split S2 sizes than for the late Turbo rears with their unusual 245/45 16 section.

Thanks Simon, so it all works except the brakes won't fit, I have the wheels and really would like to do this somehow..... is there no way.... [8|] George 944t

No, but the wheels will sell for silly money. When PH gets a set now he puts them on eBay at £1,000 buy it now and they always sell...

Thanks Simon, thats the sizes I want, good suggestion, just I had hoped to get the fuch's into the equation. Our driving style is similar, and you have hit the nail on the head many times with those remarks, - I cannot rely on the 245 section TOYO's to stay hooked up in the wet, so why not have 225 with all their benefits and accept the wet traction is right foot controlled. Hmmmm was unaware of the S2 size options. They are OE and not a bad looking wheel, but would people think it wasn't '89 and had a Cat fitted........[8|] thx again George

Is anyone aware of the compatibility of the early / late offset suspension components?

I would like to have:

16" Fuchs (951 Part No)
Larger Brakes
M030 Suspension

and optionally ABS, but may consider without.

Do I need Hub assembly's and front wishbones off an 85 or 86 car? will the newer brakes fit those hubs? What component gives the rear offset difference?

Why? I am aware the earlier cars drove very nicely / steered delicately, nice over bad tarmac, etc. I think the heavier 8&9" wheels and heavier tyres are perhaps a backward step over the earlier 7&8" setup, and OK traction will be reduced, but otherwise its all gain as usual with weight loss. (and especially unsprung weight)

Thx in advance

I am currently using Uniroyal Rainsport 2, W-rated, on mine. Can't remember where I got them but it was either Camskill or Blackcircles or Pneus Online. They have been very good indeed so far, and were very well priced. I put them on new when I got the car back out of the body shop at Christmas - there's no percentage in having a newly refurbds set of wheels and tarnishing them with old tyres. Given the weather since Christmas I have been splashing around on them in the rain pretty much ever since. They are decently grippy in the dry, very good indeed in the wet, quiet and comfy. The car is a lot quieter and more supple than it was on the previous setup, which was Eagle F1 on the front and Toyo T1-R on the rear.
