Wheel Centre caps

Obviously they are trademarked items, but you could simply flatten a Porsche set, spray them silver then apply some decals made to the RUF logo []

Why would you want RUF wheel caps, unless you had a RUF?

What do RUF caps look like then? I am guessing silver, with a RUF logo ... ?

(An aside - I took my centre caps off the other day, cleaned them and re-painted the red on them with an old touch-up stick I had left over from an old Golf - wrong red, but pretty close - and they look really good! Great improvement.)

Ancillary question - is there any way of getting the centre caps off without removing the wheels and knocking them out from the inside?

Oli.

Some of the caps have 2 small holes through them (about 3mm) you can pull the caps from the wheels using a suitably bent piece of wire (old coat hanger)

ORIGINAL: Geoff997

Very handy for the hoody, scroat, or jealous b*****d to steal them.[]
This is part of the reason i wanted some ruf ones as some lad in a hoody would be more likley to pinch some porsche logo ones rather than some ruf's as most probably havent even heard of them and i like to be different !!!

I think they are all the same size for genuine wheels. Some of the replicas seem to have difficulty with some caps sticking out a bit, though others are fine. Are your cups genuine? They look like 2's from you avatar, though they also look to have angled spokes which makes them 3 or Turbo twist or something.

No they're not genuine. Can't remember the brand but from memory it is some Italian manufacturer. They were on the car when I got it.

Can always bang them back on ebay if they don't fit properly anyway I guess.

You may need to gently heat (hairdrier borrowed from 'er indoors) the 5 retaining clips on the back & bend them out slightly to get a good fit, apart from that you should be fine.

They'll be Mille Miglia - all the replicas were. Good enough wheels, just a bit heavier. My 964 has MM Cup 1's on it and it has perfectly good centre caps with excellent fit. I actually prefer the monochrome look of the black and silver caps, but a set I have don't fit my Cup 1's. Bizarrely they do fit my Mille Miglia 18" Cup 2 reps...

I bought an Ebay plastic set before. Were around £25 and were sufficiently decent quality. Will look for a link for you.

I brought a set, where a poor fit, got a refund, brought a black set last week, £14 and are fine. Not a great deal in it compered 2 my genuine ones, saves me spray them

Suggest it's worth keeping an eye on eBay (save your search etc) for proper ones IMHO. I recently got a brand new set of Porsche originals, still in the box, for £40 - silver / black logo dished version. Perfect fit.
