Wheel arch liners

Every year I take off the wheels and give them and under the arches a bit of a clean. Usually I wax the wheels, this year ceramic coating to see if it works any better. For the first time something made me take off the wheel arch liners on the rear and discovered a load of mud sandwiched between the arch and liner. Photo attached. If the two screws and three nuts succumb to being unscrewed it is a really easy job and might save corrosion, cost and a pain in the bum later. Funny what has made my day!


 
I bought a gallon of Meguiar's Detailer All Purpose Cleaner (D-10101) about 6 years ago (it will outlast me I suspect!) after a fair bit of Googling. I use it diluted about 1:5 in a spray bottle as the instructions for heavy cleaning on cars and around the garage. It's good stuff, scrub it in with an old paintbrush and wash it off - nothing else - the after photo shows it after it has dried. I treated the nominal corrosion with rust converter and sprayed a light coat of Wurth Cavity wax over the surfaces before putting the liners back in - not sure if that was necessary.

I do feel I have somehow got away with it and that is why I have put this post up. I am mightily impressed that the corrosion was insignificant bearing in mind this compacted mud has been building up for 15 years and wet/salty in the winter.
 
How bizarre - I have just looked through April Porsche Post and Stuart Sargeant our register secretary did a description of doing exactly this job in the registers section. Almost identical comments but a bit more detail and better photos! I would like to say great minds but I am afraid that does not count for me ;-)
 
Yep. Same here when I did a thorough clean while replacing the brakes three years ago. The amount of dirt and silt in there was crazy, BUT gives a great testament to Porsche build quality in that once clean, it looks good as new.
